South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb has announced a temporary suspension of deposit and withdrawal services for Casper (CSPR) to accommodate the network’s upcoming mainnet upgrade. The suspension will take effect at 10:00 a.m. UTC on May 19.

Timeline and Scope of the Suspension

According to Bithumb’s official notice, the halt applies to both deposits and withdrawals of CSPR tokens. The exchange has not yet specified the exact duration of the suspension, but such pauses typically last until the network upgrade is completed and stability is confirmed. Users are advised to complete any pending CSPR transactions before the cutoff time.

Why the Casper Mainnet Upgrade Matters

The Casper network, known for its proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism and focus on enterprise blockchain adoption, periodically undergoes mainnet upgrades to improve scalability, security, and functionality. This upgrade may introduce protocol changes that require exchanges to update their infrastructure to remain compatible. For CSPR holders, the suspension is a standard precautionary measure to prevent transaction errors or loss of funds during the transition.

What Users Should Know

Bithumb’s decision aligns with common industry practice. Exchanges routinely suspend services for tokens undergoing network upgrades to ensure data integrity and user asset safety. CSPR traders and investors should monitor Bithumb’s official channels for resumption announcements. The exchange typically notifies users once the upgrade is verified and services are restored.

Conclusion

The temporary suspension of CSPR deposits and withdrawals on Bithumb reflects a necessary operational step tied to the Casper network’s mainnet upgrade. While the halt may cause short-term inconvenience, it is designed to protect user assets and maintain network compatibility. Holders should plan accordingly and stay updated via official Bithumb communications.
