Ripple CTO David Schwartz has warned the XRP community about scam risks targeting holders, urging users to verify links, wallet requests, and giveaway claims before interacting with any unsolicited messages.

David Schwartz Flags XRP Scam Risk

Schwartz, known by his handle @JoelKatz on X, has used his social media presence to flag fraudulent schemes aimed at XRP holders. The warnings have centered on impersonation attempts and fake promotions that exploit trust in Ripple leadership.

The issue has drawn enough attention that U.Today covered the warning, amplifying its reach beyond Schwartz's direct followers. Scammers frequently impersonate executives like Schwartz to lend credibility to fraudulent giveaway schemes and phishing links.

How the Scam Angle Affects XRP Holders

Ripple has published a dedicated guide on spotting and reporting crypto scams, outlining common patterns that target the XRP community. These include fake giveaways promising doubled returns, impersonation accounts mimicking official Ripple handles, and malicious links designed to harvest wallet credentials.

The tactics are not unique to XRP. Crypto scams involving executive impersonation have become widespread, with cases like the $19 million theft network recently traced by ZachXBT showing how sophisticated these operations can be.

XRP holders face particular exposure because of the token's large retail following and frequent community discussion around regulatory developments, creating fertile ground for social engineering. Scammers exploit moments of heightened attention, such as regulatory updates around crypto legislation, to push fraudulent offers.

What XRP Users Should Verify Next

Before engaging with any XRP-related promotion or request, holders should take several immediate steps. Verify that any account claiming to be David Schwartz or Ripple matches the official handle (@JoelKatz). No legitimate giveaway will ask users to send tokens first.

Check all URLs carefully before clicking. Scam sites often use slight misspellings of official domains. Wallet connection requests from unfamiliar sites should be rejected outright. As broader regulatory frameworks for digital assets continue to develop, official communications will come through verified channels, not direct messages or reply threads.

This article does not include price data or market analysis because the available research does not support meaningful conclusions in those areas. The focus remains on the concrete safety steps that XRP community members can act on immediately.
