The XRP community reacted strongly on Monday after the XRP Ledger Foundation announced that former Ripple CTO David Schwartz joined its leadership structure as an Honorary Board Member. The development immediately increased attention around the Foundation’s future technical direction as XRPL expands deeper into decentralized finance and blockchain infrastructure services.
According to the XRP Ledger Foundation, Schwartz will contribute long-term technical guidance while supporting the organization’s stewardship responsibilities across the XRP Ledger ecosystem. The Foundation described his addition as an important step toward strengthening technical governance and ecosystem coordination.
Schwartz remains one of the most recognizable figures connected to XRP Ledger development after helping build the original XRPL codebase alongside Arthur Britto and Jed McCaleb in 2011. Moreover, his work focused on creating a faster and more energy-efficient blockchain alternative compared to Bitcoin.
Although Schwartz previously served as Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer, he has consistently remained active within the broader XRP Ledger ecosystem. Additionally, he frequently addresses technical discussions involving validators, consensus systems, scalability, and network upgrades.

The XRP Ledger Foundation operates independently from Ripple while supporting decentralized growth across the XRPL ecosystem. In addition to maintaining core repositories, the organization manages validator infrastructure and supports developers building blockchain applications on the network.
Consequently, Schwartz’s involvement arrives during a period of increasing technical expansion for XRPL. The ecosystem has recently moved deeper into decentralized finance products, automated market makers, tokenization tools, and smart contract functionality.

According to the Foundation, Schwartz brings extensive knowledge of cryptography and unmatched familiarity with XRPL’s original architecture. His experience could therefore help guide future infrastructure decisions as ecosystem activity continues expanding globally.

Meanwhile, several XRP supporters described the appointment as a major positive development for the network. Many community members believe Schwartz’s direct involvement could improve long-term coordination between developers, validators, and ecosystem organizations.
His appointment also comes as blockchain networks increasingly compete for institutional adoption and decentralized finance activity. Consequently, technical leadership and infrastructure reliability remain critical priorities across the digital asset industry.
Besides that, XRPL developers continue working on upgrades designed to improve interoperability, scalability, and transaction efficiency. Schwartz’s presence within the Foundation may strengthen confidence surrounding those ongoing development efforts.
David Schwartz’s joining the XRP Ledger Foundation adds one of XRPL’s original architects directly into the organization’s leadership structure. Moreover, the move strengthens the Foundation’s technical positioning as the XRP Ledger ecosystem continues expanding into more advanced blockchain use cases.
