At 11:00 AM (UTC+8) on January 7, 2026, the opBNB network executed the Fourier hard fork upgrade, successfully integrating PR #305. This pivotal update halves block intervals from 500ms to 250ms, optimizing the network's efficiency and transaction speeds. The upgrade is overseen by the BNB Chain leadership and involves participation from opBNB's associated DeFi lending platform, Venus Protocol.

The reduction in block time translates into quicker transaction processing and enhanced confirmation speeds, pivotal for developers and users. The transition marks a significant leap in the BNB Chain ecosystem's operational capability.

Research insights from the Coincu team suggest this upgrade aligns with broader trends in blockchain technology that emphasize speed and efficiency. The successful execution of such changes may position BNB Chain as a strong competitor in the Layer 2 market landscape.
