Starknet, an Ethereum Layer-2 ZK-rollup network, experienced a two-hour mainnet outage starting January 5, 2026, as the team confirmed investigation efforts via their official X (Twitter) account.
This incident highlights ongoing stability challenges for Layer-2 networks with potential impacts on STRK token trading, though no significant price shifts observed during the outage period.
The Ethereum Layer-2 network, Starknet, is undergoing a notable outage, lasting over two hours. The team announced via Twitter that they are actively examining the issue, working diligently to restore full system functionality and ensuring operations return to normal.

The incident involves Starknet, an Ethereum Layer-2 ZK-rollup, which is experiencing significant challenges. With no immediate comments from key leaders, the team collectively confirmed the outage and ongoing efforts to resolve it via their social media channels.
Immediate effects include halted transactions and reduced operations in affected industries. Market reactions have been moderate, with STRK tokens exhibiting minor fluctuations. The team’s swift response showcases their commitment to mitigating disruptions quickly and effectively. As the Starknet team noted,

Starknet is currently experiencing downtime. Our team is actively investigating the issue and working to restore full functionality as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience.

Financial and market implications are evident as exchanges like Bithumb suspend STRK deposits. Despite this, the token's volatility is limited, reflecting stable market dynamics. This situation highlights the importance of resilience in decentralized network operations.
Historical precedents at Starknet indicate recurring technical issues throughout 2025. Earlier downtimes, such as the September incident, point to similar systemic vulnerabilities. Despite this, today's outage underscores the necessity of robust Layer-2 frameworks for sustained ecosystem reliability. Read original article on coinlive.me
