The XRP ecosystem drew renewed attention after a pundit outlined how RLUSD could reshape XRP’s institutional relevance. The discussion shifted focus away from speculation toward infrastructure-driven adoption across regulated financial markets.
According to Pumpius, a prominent commentator within the XRP community, RLUSD should not be viewed as a routine stablecoin. Instead, he explained that its core purpose lies in reinforcing XRP’s long-term necessity. Institutional finance, he noted, depends on stability rather than volatility. Banks, funds, and corporate treasuries require predictable settlement and compliant accounting structures to operate efficiently.
Consequently, RLUSD provides a stable unit of account directly on the XRP Ledger. This stability allows institutions to price assets, manage treasury flows, and settle transactions without exposure to market swings. XRP, however, does not lose relevance in this structure. Rather, its role becomes more defined and more critical.
Pumpius explained that mature financial systems operate on two distinct layers. One layer supports stability for pricing and settlement. Another enables liquidity movement across borders and markets. RLUSD fills the first role, while XRP fulfills the second as a neutral bridge asset. Whenever value moves beyond a single corridor, XRP becomes part of the transaction.

Moreover, the pundit highlighted a reinforcing cycle created by RLUSD adoption. As RLUSD usage grows, activity on the XRP Ledger increases. This growth deepens liquidity pools and encourages broader institutional onboarding. XRP benefits because it remains the most efficient asset for connecting these expanding pools.
Additionally, increased institutional participation alters XRP supply dynamics. XRP becomes locked in liquidity pools, settlement reserves, and operational balances. These locked holdings reduce actively traded supply. Hence, growing utility combines with reduced circulation, supporting long-term valuation through usage rather than hype.
According to the pundit, RLUSD also lowers the barrier for institutions hesitant about volatile digital assets. Regulated entities often begin with stable, compliant instruments. Once they operate on XRPL using RLUSD, XRP naturally becomes the efficiency upgrade for faster settlement and improved capital allocation.
This perspective aligns with Ripple’s recent update on RLUSD expansion. According to Ripple, RLUSD will extend to several Layer 2 networks through Wormhole’s NTT standard. These include Optimism, Base, Inkchain, and Unichain. The company stated that this update will enhance XRP’s utility by providing liquidity pairs across chains, and RLUSD will become the first U.S.-based trust-regulated stablecoin on these networks.
In conclusion, the pundit emphasized that RLUSD opens institutional doors while XRP powers value movement behind the scenes. Together, they form an interconnected system built on gradual dependency and sustained network usage.
