As the Fed resumed buying Treasuries and branded the operation a liquidity measure, bullion markets reacted instantly and forcefully, turning a routine policy adjustment into a fresh test of Bitcoin’s “digital gold” narrative.

According to <a href="https://crypto-economy.com/peter-schiff-clashes-with-cz-bitcoin-payments-are-just-liquidated-bets/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Schiff</a>, gold jumped more than $50 in a single session to reclaim levels above $4,325, silver pushed past $64 and mining stocks followed, while Bitcoin failed to attract flight capital. For a critic who spent years contrasting hard metals with crypto, the divergence offered exactly price action he was waiting for, reinforcing his view that QE flows still prioritize bullion over <a href="https://crypto-economy.com/deribit-flags-4-3b-btc-eth-options-expiry-today/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">BTC</a>.

Schiff’s core claim is blunt: if Bitcoin were truly “digital gold,” then the Fed’s renewed balance sheet growth should have sent money flowing into BTC rather than into bullion and mining shares. Instead, he notes that capital rotated toward metals while the dollar index weakened and Bitcoin sold off alongside other risk assets, behaviour that in his view makes the asset look more like a speculative trade than a defensive monetary hedge when liquidity conditions shift.
He leaned on that point in a post, boasting that with “QE back,” gold and silver are “off to the races” while Bitcoin is “not even running,” likening the cryptocurrency to a horse that should be put “out to pasture”. Behind the rhetoric sits a familiar argument: in moments when investors seek shelter from uncertainty, Schiff believes markets often choose tangible stores of value over digital ones, reinforcing his longstanding scepticism toward Bitcoin’s safe haven branding.
Price history gives his critique extra bite. Bitcoin had fallen over 30% from its October peak near $120,000 into the low $90,000s, with sellers pressing it toward $80,600 before buyers staged a technical rebound. Schiff argues that the bounce is technical rather than narrative, that investors are not embracing the inflation hedge story, and that the next liquidity wave will determine whether QE capital keeps favouring metals or returns to Bitcoin in the eyes of Schiff.
