Altcoin Sherpa expects Bitcoin to rapidly climb to $100K or higher once real momentum returns.

He predicts most altcoins face another brutal leg down; many will never recover.

Only ETH, SOL, and a tiny group of high-conviction alts are expected to outperform BTC this cycle.

Altcoin Sherpa, one of the most followed chartists in crypto, just delivered a sobering reality check to the altcoin casino: the pain is far from over .In a widely shared post on December 5, Sherpa laid out three distinct scenarios for the current cycle, but all of them share one grim constant—most altcoins are heading for the graveyard. “We’re about to see if these were just lower highs and price is going lower OR if we actually have any juice to bounce to like 100K or something,” he wrote. “BTC would need to quickly bottom here or it + every other coin is going to die.
”His chart paints the picture in red: Bitcoin is coiling near cycle highs, but the majority of altcoins have already rolled over hard after failing to make new highs alongside BTC. Sherpa’s base-case outlook (Scenario 1) sees BTC grinding immediately higher toward $100K+ while alt/BTC pairs continue hemorrhaging. Scenario 2 offers brief hope—a retrace and bounce in alts—before the final capitulation leg. Scenario 3, the nuclear outcome, is a sharp BTC drop that drags everything into the abyss before the eventual bull resumption.

The message to altcoin holders is brutal but consistent with Sherpa’s track record: the “altseason” narrative is dead for 99% of the market. Only a select few—Ethereum, Solana, and a handful of fundamentally strong large-caps—are likely to outperform Bitcoin this cycle. Everything else is either dead money or about to become it.Sherpa’s call aligns with the growing realization that Bitcoin dominance is reasserting itself after a brief mid-2024 dip. With macro liquidity still constrained and retail euphoria nowhere to be found, speculative froth in small-cap tokens has no fuel left.
For Bitcoin maximalists, the forecast is champagne-worthy: a swift move to six figures looks increasingly probable. For the thousands of altcoin projects that pumped 10–100x in 2021 and again in early 2024, the message is simple—get out or prepare for the reaper. In Sherpa’s own words: “SET H SOSL SNB” (stop loss, sell now, buy back later). Harsh, but history shows he rarely minces words when the charts turn red.
