Debates about XRP’s supply often ignore how Ripple built its system to create stability. SMQKE (@SMQKEDQG), a well-known crypto researcher on X, has brought that structure back into focus.
He shared documents showing a framework that shapes how XRP enters the market and how Ripple manages its holdings.
The system may look simple, but it plays a major role in how XRP holds value and how its supply remains controlled.

Why Ripple Put XRP in Escrow

Ripple established the escrow in 2017. The company locked 55 billion XRP in a secured setup with monthly release contracts. This removed uncertainty around future supply. The document states that the design ensures that “a large number of XRP will not enter the market at one time and lead to a substantial reduction in the price of XRP.”
That line captures the intent. Ripple wanted a clear release path that protects the market from sudden changes. The system operates through preset smart contracts. Each contract unlocks on a fixed date. While Ripple can make deals with these tokens while in escrow, the company cannot alter the timing or accelerate access to the tokens.
If Ripple does not use all released XRP in a given month, the unused amount returns to escrow with a new expiration period.

What the Escrow Means for XRP’s Market Health

This structure helps maintain stability. It also protects the asset’s price. It gives the market a predictable supply schedule. The documents show that nearly 40% of all XRP remained in escrow as of July 2025. Ripple cannot transfer that portion until each contract matures. This helps traders and institutions form expectations about liquidity months ahead.

The framework also supports Ripple’s plans for market development. Ripple expects to use unlocked XRP for market-making incentives and for sales to institutional buyers. These uses come from the original explanation of the system. The consistent release timeline provides institutions with the clarity they need to plan their operations. It also limits speculation about sudden supply shifts.

How This Positions XRP for Future Growth

As more institutions adopt cryptocurrencies, a predictable supply becomes more important. XRP benefits from a structure that supports stable liquidity. A market that understands the supply timeline can price the asset more accurately. The escrow system helps maintain that environment.
The information in the documents and SMQKE’s post confirms the core value of this design. It limits disorderly supply movements, supports trust in long-term planning, and reinforces XRP’s role as a reliable settlement asset.
