On November 28, 2025, CME Globex Futures and Options markets experienced a halt due to a technical issue at CyrusOne data centers, impacting multiple asset classes.

The halt affects futures and options trading, potentially causing market volatility and liquidity disruptions in impacted derivatives markets.

CME Globex Futures and Options markets were halted on November 28, 2025, due to a technical failure caused by a cooling issue. The affected trades spanned various asset classes, including commodities, Treasuries, and S&P 500 futures.

CME Group, which operates major derivatives exchanges, confirmed the halt. A Singapore-based spokesperson sent a confirmation email. The group's website noted that support teams are actively working to resolve the problem.

The halt affected trading on CME's network, including futures on US crude oil and foreign exchange platforms. Although CME's offerings include Bitcoin futures, specific cryptocurrency impacts were not immediately detailed in available reports.

Financial experts have warned that even a brief market halt can distort price discovery. Charu Chanana, Chief Investment Strategist at Saxo Markets, noted, "Even a brief halt can distort price discovery and cause catch-up volatility in illiquid markets." This event may lead to increased volatility in less liquid markets once trading resumes, potentially impacting futures and options markets globally.

No direct statements from CME leadership were issued immediately following the incident. Historical precedents show that similar outages often induce short-term volatility. However, they rarely lead to permanent market shifts or regulatory responses.

Insights suggest the halting may not affect on-chain activities or cryptocurrencies directly. The event highlights the vulnerabilities in complex trading infrastructures. Market participants should monitor liquidity measures and price changes closely until trading normalizes.
