Europe’s largest asset manager, Amundi, has officially launched its first tokenized share on the Ethereum blockchain, signaling a significant step forward in merging traditional finance with decentralized technology. The tokenized share is tied to a euro-denominated money market fund, offering investors access through a blockchain-based structure instead of traditional platforms.

This move is not just a technical milestone — it’s a strategic leap that demonstrates how institutional players are embracing blockchain to increase transparency, efficiency, and accessibility in asset management.

Why Ethereum and Why Now?

Amundi selected Ethereum due to its mature infrastructure, active developer community, and wide adoption across the financial ecosystem. By tokenizing shares of a money market fund, Amundi can allow near-instant settlement, reduced administrative costs, and broader access — particularly for digital-native investors.

Ethereum’s public ledger also enhances transparency by allowing real-time verification of holdings and transfers. These advantages are crucial as financial institutions look for ways to modernize and streamline fund operations.

This development is part of a growing trend known as Real-World Asset (RWA) tokenization, where physical or financial assets are represented digitally on a blockchain. Other major players like BlackRock and JPMorgan are exploring similar moves, but Amundi is the first in Europe to offer this for a money market fund.

By leveraging blockchain technology, Amundi is helping pave the way for more scalable, secure, and programmable financial instruments. As regulators across Europe begin to provide clearer frameworks for tokenized finance, more institutions are likely to follow suit.
