Monad blockchain launched its mainnet with a 100 billion MON token supply, including an immediate circulation of 10.8 billion tokens distributed via public sale and airdrop.
This launch signifies significant market activity, as 49.4 billion tokens are now unlocked, potentially influencing trading and blockchain networks compatible with EVM technology.
<h2 id="monad-blockchain-launch">Monad Blockchain Launch</h2>
The Monad blockchain has officially launched its mainnet with a total MON token supply of 100 billion (<a href="https://www.monad.xyz/announcements/mon-tokenomics-overview" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Monad blockchain launches mainnet with 100 billion tokens</a>). At launch, 10.8 billion MON tokens (10.8%) were immediately unlocked and distributed via a public sale and airdrop. According to the Monad Foundation, "at the launch of Monad Public Mainnet, approximately 10.8B MON tokens (10.8%) are expected to be unlocked and in public circulation, owing to distribution via the Monad public sale and the MON Airdrop. These tokens are freely deployable for activity on the Monad protocol."
The project is directed by the Monad Foundation and Category Labs. Approximately 7.5% of MON tokens were sold at $0.025 each through Coinbase preceding the mainnet launch (<a href="https://markets.coinpedia.org/monad2/?tab=launchpads&amp;tab_id=800" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Tokenomics overview and economic implications of Monad blockchain</a>).
The launch impacts the blockchain industry significantly, with 27% of tokens locked for team members and 19.7% for early investors. These tokens include a one-year lock followed by a 3-4 year vesting period, which decreases sudden sell pressure.
Economic implications are considerable. The initial market cap is estimated at $270 million based on sale price, while the ecosystem allocation of 38.5% of tokens suggests potential market growth.
Initial allocation unlocks prompt liquidity shifts in the market. Potential cross-ecosystem links with major L2s and ETH tokens emerge, reflecting Monad's EVM compatibility.
Predictions based on previous L1 launches suggest possible initial liquidity inflows and token speculation, particularly with Ethereum-related assets. Similar historical patterns showed volatility and TVL growth after launches.
