President Trump

CZ is back in the spotlight. His name has been everywhere since his recent presidential pardon. Now, people are asking a new question. If the U.S. pardons CZ, will the country also refund part of the massive $4.3 billion Binance settlement?

CZ has kept his tone calm. He gave a simple answer online. He said it is a “delicate question.” Still, his reply revealed a lot about how he sees the future.

The Backstory: CZ, Binance, and the $4.3 Billion settlement

To understand this question, we must revisit 2023. That year, CZ pleaded guilty to failing to maintain proper anti-money-laundering controls. As part of the deal, Binance paid $4.3 billion to U.S. agencies. CZ also stepped down as CEO and paid a personal fine of $50 million.

CZ: THE MAN WHO BUILT CRYPTO… AND GOT JAILED FOR IT

Before governments cared, Changpeng “CZ” Zhao built the rails that carried crypto into the mainstream.

Binance wasn’t just an exchange, it was the infrastructure for a new financial world: faster, borderless, permissionless.… https://t.co/Lp3bKBO4oY pic.twitter.com/zGmdR6QenW

Some strict rules accompanied the settlement. Binance had to hire external compliance auditors, enhance AML screening, and adhere to new reporting standards. This transaction was one of the pivotal moments in the history of cryptocurrency.

The Trump Pardon

In October 2025, everything changed. President Trump gave CZ a full and unconditional pardon. The White House stated that it believed in “fairness, innovation, and justice.” It was very clear that the administration wants America to remain the top home for crypto.

🇺🇸 BREAKING: President Trump speaks about the pardon for CZ.

“They said, what he did is not even a crime, wasn’t a crime… I gave him a pardon at the request of a lot of good people.” pic.twitter.com/abvBTaxkxl

But here’s the twist. The pardon covers CZ as a person, not necessarily Binance as a company. Reports even pointed that out. Some said it was unclear whether the pardon affects the old fine at all. Others said you can’t undo most corporate settlements, even with a pardon. So the refund question is not simple.

CZ’s Response

When someone asked CZ online whether he would get a refund, he answered with humility. He said he was already grateful for the pardon. He said there is a balance between asking for more and appreciating what you have.

ah, delicate question.

1. I appreciate the pardon already. There is a balance in asking for more vs “what is fair” vs appreciate what you got already.

2. IF we get any refund, we will be investing that in America anyway, to show our appreciation.

Haven’t asked yet, I think🙏

However, he also added something important. If the U.S. ever refunded any part of the fine, CZ said he would invest that money back in America. He said it would be his way of showing appreciation.

Conclusion

In the end, CZ kept things grounded. He said he has not asked for a refund. He said he is simply thankful. Still, his message was clear. If the United States returns anything, CZ will reinvest it in the U.S. economy. He wants to help the country establish its presence in the crypto industry.
