Ripple’s annual Swell conference ended with optimism, energy, and a clear message from CEO Brad Garlinghouse — the company’s journey is far from over. The event, which brought together major banks, fintech innovators, and blockchain leaders, showcased how far Ripple has come since its early days as a disruptor challenging traditional finance.
XtinaRP shared a video clip of Garlinghouse’s closing remarks on X, giving the XRP community a firsthand look at his reflections and announcement. The Ripple chief revisited Swell’s humble beginnings, celebrated its global evolution, and revealed major plans for the next chapter.

Garlinghouse opened his speech with a story that underlined Ripple’s spirit of resilience. “The concept of Swell popped up in 2017,” he recalled. “It was the reaction to Swift not letting us attend Sibos. A true story.”

Denied access to the global banking summit, Ripple hosted its own event just down the street. “We couldn’t get a booth at Sibos, so we decided to host our own event,” Garlinghouse said. “It wasn’t nearly what we have today, but it was anchored by speakers like Ben Bernanke.”
That early defiance planted the seed for what would become Ripple Swell — now one of the most recognized blockchain conferences worldwide.

A New Financial Era

Reflecting on the event’s transformation, Garlinghouse said, “Nine years later, the world looks profoundly different.” He noted that the same financial institutions that once ignored crypto are now active participants. “Crypto and blockchain have moved from being taboo words to being part of the fabric of society,” he declared.
The Ripple CEO emphasized the magnitude of this shift, describing it as “a rewiring of financial infrastructure.” He told the audience, “We are witnessing things that were simply not possible before. It’s an amazing time to be alive.”

Garlinghouse highlighted Ripple’s decade-long commitment to compliance and transparency, stressing that the company has led not just through innovation but through integrity.
“I’m extremely proud that Ripple has been leading from the front,” he said. “For over a decade, we have been leading with a compliance-first posture and championing not just XRP but the entire industry.”

The Big Announcement: Swell 2026

As the crowd awaited his closing words, Garlinghouse delivered a surprise announcement that thrilled the XRP Army. “Our 10th Swell is going to be a little bit different,” he revealed. “We are excited to expand Swell to include not just financial institutions, payment providers, or asset managers, but also developers, investors, researchers, and academics.”
He confirmed that the next Swell will return to New York City next fall. “This is going to be one single beacon event,” he said, promising a larger, more inclusive platform that unites the institutional and developer sides of the XRP ecosystem.

A Unified Future

Garlinghouse ended with gratitude and inspiration. “You are all parts of this movement,” he told attendees. “The work is nowhere near done, but if the conversations over the last two days have proven anything, it’s that we’re just getting started.”
Ripple Swell 2025 may be over, but with next year’s expanded event on the horizon, Garlinghouse made one thing clear — the XRP community’s journey has only just begun.
