Bitcoin’s sharp decline below $100,000 has shaken investor confidence once again. The digital asset fell to its lowest level in four months, dragged down by a mix of forced liquidations and growing market anxiety. Analysts warn that the October 10 crypto sell-off continues to ripple across the market, revealing “dead bodies” — traders and funds caught overexposed to leverage. Data from Hyblock shows that many long positions around the $100,000 mark have been wiped out, creating thin liquidity down to $88,000. Traders now eye the $88,000 to $95,000 range as a possible bottom, though confidence remains fragile.

The prolonged U.S. government shutdown has further intensified risk aversion in financial markets. As the standoff extends into its 34th day, investors are cutting exposure to volatile assets, including BTC and Ethereum. Bitcoin’s price dropped 5.6% in 24 hours to around $100,547, while Ethereum lost over 7%, erasing its gains for the year. The political gridlock in Washington has frozen data releases and delayed payments, deepening fears of broader economic disruption. Market observers now estimate a 59% chance the shutdown could stretch beyond 42 days, an outlook that has clearly spooked both institutional and retail investors.

Amid the sell-off, Paris-based Sequans Communications announced it had reduced its Bitcoin holdings by nearly 1,000 BTC. The IoT semiconductor firm said the decision was part of a “strategic asset reallocation” aimed at improving its balance sheet and paying down debt. CEO Georges Karam maintained that the company’s “deep conviction in Bitcoin remains unchanged,” framing the move as tactical rather than bearish. Still, the sale underscores how even long-term believers are seeking safety as volatility intensifies. With Bitcoin down roughly one-fifth in a week, such defensive actions by corporations may further accelerate short-term price weakness.

Peter Schiff Calls Out the “Bitcoin Bubble”

Gold advocate and economist Peter Schiff has renewed his attacks on Bitcoin, calling the recent decline a clear sign of structural fragility. Schiff mocked Bitcoin for losing a third of its value in gold terms since last month, quipping that there’s “two thirds left to go.” In a recent interview, he argued that Bitcoin’s rise was never organic but fueled by political and Wall Street support. According to Schiff, Washington’s and Wall Street’s involvement kept the crypto market alive, but that backing could soon vanish. He insists Bitcoin offers no real protection against inflation and will eventually “go to zero.” While his warnings have often been dismissed, Schiff’s critique has gained more attention as BTC continues to slide.

Analysts now warn that Bitcoin could face deeper losses if the selling momentum persists. Technical indicators show BTC has lost key moving average support, a signal that in the past preceded major downturns. Traders like Scott Melker highlight that losing the weekly 50-MA has historically led Bitcoin to test the 200-MA — currently near $55,000. Meanwhile, institutional outflows from spot BTC ETFs suggest that larger investors are also turning cautious. Still, some traders believe the market could soon find a floor as panic-driven liquidations exhaust themselves. Whether Bitcoin rebounds or continues to fall may depend on how long the U.S. shutdown lasts — and whether confidence can return before Peter Schiff’s gloomy prophecy starts to look prophetic.
