River's recent study reveals that less than 4% of the global population owns Bitcoin as of 2025, highlighting both personal and institutional investment shifts.
Increased corporate allocations and strong HODLing behavior indicate a potentially tighter Bitcoin supply, affecting future price dynamics and market conditions.
According to River's 2025 research, less than 4% of the global population owns Bitcoin. This statistic highlights the limited reach of Bitcoin ownership worldwide, despite its growing popularity and institutional adoption.
River, a US-based Bitcoin financial firm led by CEO Alex Leishman, conducted the research. They focus on brokerage, mining, custody, and research within the Bitcoin sector.
Research reveals that businesses are acquiring Bitcoin at a pace significantly surpassing new supply. Approximately 1,755 BTC are being bought daily, exceeding the post-halving miner output. The Bitcoin market sees increased institutional involvement, with firms like River reporting significant allocations of business profits toward Bitcoin investments.

Institutions have displayed heightened interest in cryptocurrency, with River noting a marked acceleration in Bitcoin accumulation since 2024. Corporate demand has intensified alongside new ETF launches.
The survey suggests potential shifts in financial and market dynamics, impacting Bitcoin's future valuation and supply-demand equilibrium. Such dynamics might influence regulatory attitudes toward cryptocurrency.
