The crypto market is showing signs of a major shift. After a powerful altcoin rally that pushed the Altseason Index to its peak, sentiment is now cooling. Here's what the data says.

Altseason Index Tumbles—Is the Rally Over?

The Altseason Index, a key metric tracking the relative strength of altcoins against Bitcoin, has sharply declined from a peak of 100 to just 67, according to data shared by CoinBureau on X . The index, which runs from 0 to 100, designates readings above 75 as Altcoin Season and below 25 as Bitcoin Season.

From mid-2024 to early 2025, the market was largely neutral, with only a brief move into altcoin territory in November 2024. However, by early 2025, Bitcoin regained dominance as the index dropped below the 25 mark.

Altcoins started gaining serious momentum in May 2025, pushing the Altseason Index past 75 by August and hitting a peak of 100 in September—clear signs of altcoin dominance. But with the index now slipping to 67, a shift back toward Bitcoin may be underway.

TOTAL3 Chart Hints at Bullish Breakout

Looking at the TOTAL3 chart, which tracks the crypto market cap minus Bitcoin and Ethereum, a clear cup-and-handle pattern has formed over four years—a well-known bullish setup that often signals a strong move higher ahead.

The chart is now testing a key resistance level around $1.3 trillion. If it breaks cleanly above, technical projections point to a potential rise toward $2.1–2.75 trillion. This move highlights renewed investor interest in altcoins, especially across DeFi, Web3 gaming, and Layer 2 ecosystems.

Bitcoin Dominance Drops—Capital Flowing into Alts

On the other side of the market, the BTC Dominance (BTC.D) chart is telling a different story. Bitcoin’s market share recently broke down from a rising channel, rejecting resistance near 58% dominance. This move confirms a capital rotation away from Bitcoin and into alternative assets.

The decline in BTC dominance aligns perfectly with the TOTAL3 breakout and the surge in the Altseason Index, forming a consistent narrative of altcoin strength—though recent cooling suggests caution is returning to the market.
