Bitcoin is once again showing a recurring market rhythm that traders have observed in past cycles. The pattern suggests phases of trap, flush, confusion, and eventual explosive growth, as emphasized by experienced market watchers.

Merlijn The Trader pointed out on X that Bitcoin has followed this repeating cycle across 2017, 2021, and now 2025. In 2017, the cryptocurrency rose sharply before a steep flush removed weak positions. The market then entered a confusing sideways phase. Following this, Bitcoin surged into a parabolic rise that marked the blow-off stage.

In 2021, a similar development unfolded. The asset endured a sharp correction midway through the cycle that caused disbelief among traders. A consolidation period followed, creating doubt before Bitcoin advanced to fresh highs and eventually topped out.

These examples have built a framework many analysts monitor today. Each cycle appears to progress in an almost identical order, leaving current traders attentive to potential repeat behavior in 2025.

Current Phase in 2025 Cycle

According to Merlijn, Bitcoin is presently navigating the confusion stage. The market shows volatility that disrupts both bullish and bearish positions. The so-called red box in the chart identifies this area of uncertainty. Traders continue to encounter conflicting signals as the market shakes out positions.

This stage is considered a crucial part of the cycle before the next move higher. Consolidation phases have historically prepared the ground for explosive advances. With Bitcoin following the familiar cycle, the current confusion could represent a structural setup.

The larger cycle chart outlined by Merlijn places this stage within the green upward trajectory. That suggests a developing phase leading toward expansion, in line with past cycles.

Outlook for a Potential Expansion Phase

Merlijn summarized the repeating pattern as “Trap → Flush → Detonate.” He stated that traders who do not follow through the sequence will miss the next upward cycle. The reference to 2017 and 2021 speaks to how cyclical this can be.

If Bitcoin respects those patterns, the next cycle will likely bring us all-time highs in this asset class.. The detonation stage would follow once the current consolidation completes and buyers regain strength.

The consistency across multiple cycles has built expectations for another parabolic stage. For now, traders monitor the price action within the confusion trap, watching for signs of transition.
