Shiba Inu (SHIB) experienced a notable price surge on Saturday, September 13, reaching $0.000014. This marked its highest point in over a month and represented a 25% increase from its lowest level earlier in the month. Investors are keeping a close eye on the coin, as its recent performance reflects a broader trend of market recovery.

The rise in SHIB’s price coincides with an improvement in the total value locked (TVL) in the Shibarium network, the blockchain’s layer-2 protocol. According to DeFi Llama data, Shibarium’s TVL surged nearly 40% in the past 24 hours, reaching $2.28 million. This is the highest value seen since June, marking a significant rebound after months of stagnation.

This increase followed a major upgrade to ShibaSwap, Shiba Inu’s decentralized exchange, which is now designed for better performance within the decentralized finance (DeFi) space. Additionally, ShibaSwap’s new upgrade includes a unified trading module, which is prominently featured on its homepage. This move aims to enhance the platform's usability and appeal in the DeFi sector.

Security Incident and ShibaSwap Hack Attempt

Despite the price rally, Shiba Inu's ecosystem has not been without its challenges. The Shibarium network recently confirmed it was the target of a hack attempt involving ShibaSwap. A hacker exploited a flash loan to acquire 4.6 million BONE tokens and subsequently gained control over the majority of validators. This attack allowed the hacker to sign a malicious state and attempt to drain assets from the network’s bridge.

Fortunately, only a small amount of ETH and SHIB was moved during the incident, and the stolen BONE tokens were locked and frozen. This security breach did not have a long-lasting impact on the price or operations of Shiba Inu, but it did highlight the need for continuous vigilance in the growing DeFi sector.

Declining SHIB Balances on Exchanges

Meanwhile, another key indicator of Shiba Inu's growing strength is the ongoing decline in SHIB tokens held on exchanges. Over the past month, the number of SHIB tokens on exchanges has decreased from 292 trillion to 283 trillion. This suggests that investors are holding onto their tokens rather than selling them, signaling confidence in SHIB’s price potential in the near future.

As of now, Shiba Inu's price is above its 50-day moving average, and the technical outlook appears bullish. The price is supported by an ascending trendline, and the Percentage Price Oscillator is above the zero line. If the bullish momentum continues, SHIB could target the key resistance level of $0.00001770, representing a 20% rise from its current price.
