BlackRock is erroneously cited as owning $10.22 billion of Ethereum as of July 24, 2025, though no official confirmation exists, and reports confuse this figure with Wrapped eETH's market capitalization.

Reports

erroneously suggested BlackRock had direct Ethereum holdings worth $10.22 billion. However, data indicates this figure pertains to Wrapped eETH market capitalization. No official confirmation from BlackRock or its CEO supports these claims.

BlackRock's Involvement

BlackRock's name surfaced about Ethereum ETFs after U.S. SEC approval. Yet, no statements exist on direct $10.22 billion holdings in Ethereum by BlackRock. Spotlight is on its involvement in recent market activities, due to the mismatch of information.

The news created initial ripple effects in crypto circles. However, any ownership claims lacked evidence from BlackRock or financial filings. The misinterpretation of the weETH market cap has diverged from accurate understanding of BlackRock’s genuine financial engagement.

On-chain data shows collective investor deposits, not singular institutional accumulations, making up Wrapped eETH's $10.22 billion market cap. The broader situation suggests careful examination is needed on how data impacts judgments about Ethereum-linked assets.

"The market cap of weETH reflects aggregate user deposits, not a single entity’s holdings such as BlackRock." — Vitalik Buterin, Co-founder, Ethereum Foundation

No confirmed large-scale holdings attributed to BlackRock alter previous crypto precedents. Institutional inflows might not affect liquidity as extensively as supposed. Clearer reporting and verified statements are vital to clearer investor decision-making, particularly in volatile sectors like cryptocurrency.
