In a recent post, crypto researcher SMQKE confirmed that value transfer between the XRP Ledger (XRPL) and SWIFT is operational via GateHub. The tweet, which reads “XRPL —> SWIFT via Gatehub Confirmed,” points to a functional link that has long been speculated within the digital asset ecosystem.
The statement was accompanied by two images: one depicting a technical diagram from a Purdue University research publication showing GateHub as a node in a Ripple credit network, and another showing a partnership announcement between XRPL Labs and GateHub. This development adds clarity to GateHub’s role in enabling interoperability between fiat and cryptocurrency through the XRPL.

GateHub, one of the early gateways built on the XRP Ledger, has expanded its utility by supporting transfers across major networks, including SEPA, SWIFT, Bitcoin, and Ethereum. This infrastructure enables users to send and receive fiat currencies directly through XRPL wallets, providing real-world liquidity pathways.
According to the announcement published on GateHub’s website, the collaboration with XRPL Labs (developers of Xumm) facilitates on and off-ramping for 14 assets. This positions XRPL as a central settlement layer that interfaces directly with global financial networks.

Ripple CEO Highlights XRPL’s Competitive Edge

This update comes shortly after comments made by Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse at the 2025 XRPL Apex event in Singapore. During the event, Garlinghouse projected that the XRPL could handle up to 14% of SWIFT’s global transaction volume within the next five years. He argued that the future of cross-border payments depends less on messaging protocols and more on actual liquidity movement.
Garlinghouse asserted that XRP is designed to provide exactly this, citing its speed and utility in facilitating real-time settlement. He emphasized that while SWIFT is a messaging layer, XRPL, coupled with XRP, functions as a liquidity and settlement layer.

Technical Basis and On-Chain Evidence

Garlinghouse’s remarks were made during a Q&A session where Ripple CTO David Schwartz was also present. The CEO reiterated that XRP was created to improve upon legacy systems, which are often slow, expensive, and opaque. He noted that XRPL can support real-time gross settlement, foreign exchange, and remittance functionalities on-chain. The new developments involving GateHub now illustrate a tangible connection between the XRP ecosystem and SWIFT-compatible operations.
The technical image shared by SMQKE shows GateHub as a node that provides credit links between multiple users, including one directly linked to fiat-denominated values. This reinforces GateHub’s role as an intermediary for fiat-crypto exchange through the XRP Ledger. The other image features a visual from GateHub’s website, confirming live integration with networks such as SWIFT.

Ripple’s Long-Term Vision

While Ripple continues to expand its enterprise partnerships, including its recent push into stablecoins with RLUSD, this confirmation of live interoperability with SWIFT via GateHub aligns with Ripple’s strategic positioning of XRPL as a central infrastructure for global settlement. SMQKE’s tweet brings focus to this architecture by showcasing both theoretical and applied components of the XRP-based settlement network.
The evidence presented corroborates Ripple’s stated ambition to integrate with traditional financial systems while offering an alternative to outdated settlement rails. With both technical infrastructure and active partnerships now in place, the role of XRPL in cross-border finance appears to be strengthening.
