Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) plans to trail the custody services of open digital assets. Three domestic banks have taken the initiative to participate in the trial program, which is set to kick off in the first quarter of 2025.&nbsp;
These banks are expected to provide storage solutions for the <a href="https://thenewscrypto.com/taiwan-fsc-unveils-new-aml-regulations-for-crypto-firms/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">cryptocurrencies</a> such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Dogecoin (<a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dogecoin/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">DOGE</a>). The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) has laid strict guidelines for the institutions. It requires them to specify the assets they support and identify their target user base.&nbsp;
Hu Zehua, FSC Global Planning Division Director, has <a href="https://www.cna.com.tw/news/afe/202410080463.aspx#:~:text=%E9%87%91%E7%AE%A1%E6%9C%83%E5%90%8C%E6%A8%A3%E5%B0%87%E7%89%B9%E5%88%A5,%E5%8C%85%E9%81%AD%E6%89%A3%E6%8A%BC%E7%9A%84%E9%A2%A8%E9%9A%AA%E3%80%82&amp;text=%E6%84%9F%E8%AC%9D%E6%82%A8%E7%9A%84%E8%A8%82%E9%96%B1%EF%BC%81,%E5%88%A5%E3%80%81%E7%8B%97%E7%8B%97%E5%B9%A3%E7%AD%89%E3%80%82" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">stated</a> that the authority plans to release information about the project trial at least 15 days before it begins accepting applications. Moreover, the FSC plans to collect feedback from the public on the proposed trial.&nbsp;
On the other hand, the Taiwan FSC has informed that it would allow institutional investors to trade foreign crypto exchange-traded funds (<a href="https://thenewscrypto.com/taiwan-allows-professional-investors-to-access-foreign-virtual-asset-etfs/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">ETFs</a>). The regulators plan to draft a proposal for crypto laws by December 31. It aims to formally propose by June 2025.
The Financial Supervisory Commission of Taiwan has assured the security of the custody business and the prevention of money laundering. Furthermore, it stated that the financial institutions should block the virtual assets based on illegal funds to avoid the risk.
