Former CIA agent and well-known figure in the crypto world, Edward Snowden, recently made some sharp remarks about the popular altcoin Solana (SOL). Speaking via video at the Token2049 conference, Snowden raised concerns about Solana’s increasing centralization.

According to Snowden, while Solana is often praised for its technological capabilities, it might not align with the principles of decentralization. Snowden warned that Solana‘s focus on speed and cost efficiency could put the platform’s decentralization at risk. 
Snowden highlighted that Solana’s network is becoming more centralized by design. He argued that the Solana team is deliberately shifting towards centralization to create a faster, more efficient, and cheaper network, but this comes at the cost of its decentralized nature. Snowden even pointed out that Solana is primarily being used for memecoins and fraudulent projects, further undermining its reputation.

“Many people—I’m not naming names—are thinking, let’s take good ideas and centralize everything. They believe that by doing so, the network will be faster, more efficient, and cheaper, but they are overlooking the risks that centralization poses to <a href="https://www.turkishnyradio.com/5-solana-rivals-that-could-explode-in-september/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SOL</a>,” Snowden said. He went on to explain that this approach leaves Solana vulnerable to manipulation by governments and bad actors.

While Solana faced Snowden’s criticism, he praised Bitcoin (BTC) for its resilience against state intervention. He lauded Bitcoin as the most resistant system, noting that its decentralized structure makes it the ideal choice for those seeking security from government interference. 
Edward Snowden emphasized that Bitcoin represents the true essence of what decentralized networks should aim for, contrasting it with Solana‘s centralized structure.
