A breach has occurred in the Polygon community Discord channel. The chief information security officer at <a href="https://thenewscrypto.com/polygon-matic-price-prediction/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Polygon</a>, Mudit Gupta, acknowledged the intrusion and warned users not to click on any links published in the Discord channel until the issue is fixed.
Even though Gupta claimed that all privileged accounts had two-factor authentication (2FA) activated, this event has nonetheless raised worries about security procedures. Cybercriminals have been targeting <a href="https://discord.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Discord</a>, a popular platform for crypto forums, because of the valuable information and assets that are shared or maintained there.
Moreover, everyone in the community is starting to feel the effects of the breach. Also, a Polygon user went on the X platform to alert others about what was happening.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-beware-of-phishing-links">Beware of Phishing Links</h3>
The individual claims that fraudsters masquerading as official Polygon support agents took advantage of the overflow of users in the support channel on Discord. Someone provided a link to a scam on the announcements channel. And the user got a timeout for attempting to bring attention to the problem.
The attack’s seriousness was further highlighted when another user, ValidatorK, revealed that his pool had lost $150,000 worth of Ether. Instantaneous depletion of funds occurred after engaging with what seemed like an official announcement on Polygon’s Discord channel.
Furthermore, the crypto community has been hit hard by a slew of high-profile hacks. The most recent of which being an assault on Polygon’s Discord. The blockchain security company CertiK brought attention to a phishing scheme. That was going around the <a href="https://arbitrum.io/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Arbitrum</a> Discord channel on March 25, 2023.
