Hackers exploited CoinStats’ AWS infrastructure through a phishing attack, stealing $2 million from nearly 1,600 hosted wallets. The incident has raised concerns about user compensation and the platform’s security measures.</p>

<p>CoinStats CEO Narek Gevorgyan shared new details about the attack. It <a href="https://cryptonewsland.com/coinstats-temporarily-shuts-down-app-following-security-breach/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">occurred on June 22</a>, initially targeting iOS users. Gevorgyan suggested the attack might be part of coordinated efforts by North Korean threat actors. This phishing scheme highlights the vulnerability of even well-established platforms like CoinStats.</p>

These notifications falsely promised rewards and directed users to the CoinStats AirScout Wallet. This feature facilitates rapid transactions but, in this case, redirected users to a malicious drainer website. The hackers used a push notification and an in-app alert on the home screen to promote this fraudulent site.</p> 
<p>Besides the immediate financial loss, the incident has implications for user trust. CoinStats is now working with the <a href="https://securityalliancegroup.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Security Alliance</a> and law enforcement in multiple jurisdictions. They aim to support victims and prepare a detailed explanation of the incident. However, it remains unclear if CoinStats will compensate affected users.</p>
