In the aftermath of Bitcoin's latest halving, the network is experiencing a significant adjustment period, marked by a reduced hashrate and lower transaction fees. As of the most recent data, Bitcoin’s hashrate has dipped to approximately 550 exahash per second (EH/s), a stark contrast to the 685 EH/s peak recorded just prior to the halving. This 19.7% drop in hashrate reflects the immediate impact of the halving on miners' operational capacity, according to Bitcoin.com.
With transaction fees plummeting from $28 to between $1.50 and $3.65, the economic landscape for Bitcoin miners has drastically shifted. The lower fees, while beneficial for users, spell reduced profitability for miners, especially when paired with the halving of block rewards. This dual financial squeeze is challenging the sustainability of mining operations, prompting a reevaluation of strategies amidst fluctuating market prices.
Moreover, the Bitcoin network's difficulty has adjusted accordingly, with a notable decrease of 5.62% recently recorded, signaling one of the most significant retargets since December 2022.
The evolving dynamics of Bitcoin's mining ecosystem post-halving are setting the stage for further shifts in network stability and miner profitability.
