Payment giant PayPal, in a pioneering effort, aims to promote sustainable <a href="https://coin-turk.com/arz-soku-borsalardaki-bitcoin-arzi" data-wpel-link="internal">Bitcoin</a> (<a href="https://coin-turk.com/dikkat-cz-1-milyar-dolarlik-hamlesini-yapiyor-kriptoda-yukselisin-asil-sebebi-bu-mu-dusus-kapida-mi" data-wpel-link="internal">BTC</a>) mining practices. Collaborating with Energy Web and DMG <a href="https://coin-turk.com/telegramdan-mahkemeye-sec-itirazi" data-wpel-link="internal">Blockchain</a> Solutions, PayPal’s <a href="https://en.coin-turk.com/how-meme-projects-drive-user-engagement-in-the-base-layer-2-network/" data-wpel-link="internal">Blockchain</a> Research Group (BRG) proposed a new approach to incentivize miners using environmentally friendly energy sources within the <a href="https://en.coin-turk.com/anticipation-for-the-first-u-s-spot-bitcoin-etf-approval-grows/" data-wpel-link="internal">Bitcoin</a> network. 
<h2 style="text-align: justify" id="strong-green-miners-concept-strong">“Green Miners” Concept</h2> 
The proposal introduces the concept of “green miners,” who will be accredited with special “green keys” tied to their use of low-carbon energy. These green miners will benefit from privileged treatment in transaction processing, enjoying lower fees and an additional locked Bitcoin reward only they can claim. This incentive mechanism aims to align profit motives with environmental sustainability and encourage rational miners to adopt cleaner energy sources for greater rewards.

At the heart of the proposal is the use of crypto-economic reward incentives designed to stimulate discussion and innovation within the Bitcoin ecosystem. PayPal envisions a future where sustainable mining practices become economically attractive and a more environmentally conscious approach to cryptocurrency mining is encouraged. 
Energy Web‘s “Green Proofs for Bitcoin” platform will allow miners to earn certificates based on their adherence to clean energy standards and grid impact scores. Through this platform, green miners can actively participate in the incentive program outlined by PayPal BRG, documenting and showcasing their commitment to sustainability. 
<h2 style="text-align: justify" id="strong-successful-test-of-the-proposal-strong">Successful Test of the Proposal</h2> 
In a recent test conducted in collaboration with DMG Blockchain Solutions, PayPal evaluated the effectiveness of its proposed solution under varying transaction volumes. The test aimed to measure the network’s response, particularly in terms of transaction confirmation times and network prioritization, by publishing low-fee transactions. 
The results demonstrated that transactions directed to green miners were processed more efficiently, highlighting the potential viability of the proposed incentive structure. While considering alternative approaches such as leveraging special channels like the Lightning Network or smart contracts, PayPal will continue to maintain decentralization, simplicity of implementation, and trust independence in its solutions. 
Looking forward, PayPal will continue to refine the proposal and welcomes industry feedback to further enhance its effectiveness. Although details regarding the timeline for implementation have not yet been disclosed, the initiative represents a significant step towards promoting sustainability within the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
