Over one hundred healthcare specialists and medical laboratories in Caracas began receiving Bitcoin and USDC on Stellar as a payment method.
These payments are possible thanks to the <a href="https://unalivio.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">UnAlivio platform</a>. Unalivio.com offers a system for migrants to pay for services remotely with traditional methods such as bank transfers from Chile, debit cards, and from March 2024 they are also accepting payments in Bitcoin and USDC on Stellar stablecoin.
<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/contrerasernesto/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Ernesto Contreras</a>, founder and CEO of the platform, says: “The goal of UnAlivio is to provide a simple solution for those who need to pay for services for their loved ones. Our system allows migrants to make payments immediately from other countries, by using cryptocurrency technology as a rail, maintaining an easy-to-use experience.”
With the old banking systems, sending money can have up to a 20% markup, there are often hours of delays for the money to reach its destination, and there can even be a complete loss of funds if money goes through informal intermediaries. But despite this, more than 30 million Latinos send financial help to their families every month. “That's why we created UnAlivio, a platform that makes digital payments easy for common people,” concluded Contreras.
Doctors Accept Cryptocurrency Payments
There are more than one hundred specialists in Caracas who joined the pilot program and are now also accepting USDC on Stellar, and Bitcoin as payment. These affiliates include Centro Diagnóstico Salud Petare by Fenix Salud, operating in Petare, a popular area in the eastern part of Caracas.
Ernesto explained their partners choose to join Unalivio because it offers a simplified option for patients to pay for consultations, which streamlines the payment process. He said, their partners often deal with situations where a patient must wait days for financial support from relatives abroad, or use multiple payment methods to complete the amount to be paid, which hinders urgent care services.
Additionally, the benefits of traditional payment systems are improved by adding Bitcoin and Stablecoin-powered technology, and this allows LatAm migrants to take care of needs of those family members who remain back home, and rest assured knowing that those important needs have been paid in full.
This system also benefits the doctors, allowing them to receive payments in digital currency, complying with Venezuelan regulations, and without using third-party foreign bank accounts, which is a common and complex practice in the Venezuelan market. This solves the payment process quickly and without delays or hidden fees.
Launch in Caracas, Then Expand
Today UnAlivio <a href="https://twitter.com/somosunalivio/status/1770486497109590042" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">announced</a> they have added the first hundred specialists and healthcare facilities, and have a wait list of more than four hundred healthcare professionals who want to join the network. Now, they are focusing on cementing their offer, and growing nationwide.

According to Contreras, growth has outpaced the young firms’ expectations, the Venezuela engineer added that in the coming weeks, they will add cash-in payments from Colombia, Mexico, El Salvador, and Spain, and they will also add a few select cryptocurrencies to allow for Web3 incentives, and greater security.
