<a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/terawulfs-game-changing-move-75m-investment-in-next-gen-bitcoin-miners/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">TeraWulf</a> Inc., a leading operator of environmentally clean, vertically integrated bitcoin mining facilities, <a href="https://investors.terawulf.com/news-events/press-releases/detail/68/terawulf-reaffirms-business-as-usual-at-the-nautilus" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">reaffirmed</a> its operational stability and expansion plans at the Nautilus facility despite Talen's recent sale of the Cumulus data center campus to Amazon Web Services. The company, which prides itself on utilizing over 95% zero-carbon energy, has exercised an option to augment its energy resources by an extra 50 MW at the Nautilus site, elevating its total bitcoin mining capacity there to 100 MW.
Paul Prager, CEO of TeraWulf, lauded Talen's successful transaction with AWS, recognizing it as a testament to the value of scalable infrastructure powered by affordable, sustainable energy. This event also shines a spotlight on the intrinsic value of TeraWulf's Lake Mariner facility in Upstate NY, boasting over 300 MW of available capacity, further underlining the company's commitment to eco-friendly digital infrastructure development.
The Nautilus facility, distinguished as the inaugural behind-the-meter Bitcoin mining site, sources carbon-free, round-the-clock baseload power from Pennsylvania's Susquehanna nuclear generation station. Having initiated mining operations in February 2023, TeraWulf fully utilized its initial 50 MW capacity by April 2023. With the planned additional capacity expected to be operational by 2025, TeraWulf aims to accommodate up to 2.5 EH/s of mining power, further solidifying its position in the competitive bitcoin mining landscape.
This expansion is timely, considering the upcoming bitcoin <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/heat-waves-and-halving-bitcoin-miners-cash-in-amid-rising-prices/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">halving</a> event, highlighting the strategic importance of low-cost power for mining operations post-halving. TeraWulf's advantageous power cost, averaging around 3.5 cents across its facilities, positions it favorably for sustained success in the evolving cryptocurrency <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/texas-residents-challenge-bitcoin-mining-industrys-impact-on-power-grid-and-communities/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">mining industry</a>.
