South African company MultiChoice has revealed a pricing update for its <a href="https://www.showmax.com/" data-type="URL" data-id="https://www.showmax.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Showmax</a> packages. Starting February 12, 2024, the General Entertainment package will be priced at $2.89 (N2500) per month in Nigeria. Additionally, the new Premier League Mobile plan will be available at $3.35 per month (N2900), while the Entertainment and Premier League mobile bundle will cost ₦3,200 ($3.70) monthly. 
In South Africa, the company says it will now charge R89 ($4.77) per month for its General Entertainment package, starting February 12, 2024, a downward revision from its initial R99 ($5.30) monthly. The new Premier League Mobile will cost R69 ($3.70) a month, while Entertainment Mobile will remain at R39 ($2.09) per month. 
The campaign to boost registrations for the enhanced Showmax experience is set to kick off on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. Notably, MultiChoice had previously <a href="https://technext24.com/2023/11/15/showmax-relaunch-showmax-premier-league/" data-type="URL" data-id="https://technext24.com/2023/11/15/showmax-relaunch-showmax-premier-league/">announced</a> the launch of version 2.0 in November 2023, promising over 1,300 hours of new Showmax Originals, a revamped app, and a fresh look. The highly anticipated Premier League mobile plan, announced by MultiChoice South Africa and Showmax CEO Marc Jury on Monday, January 8, 2024, is set to livestream all 380 matches, offering a mobile-only viewing experience.

Speaking of this, recall that Showmax discontinued its live-streaming sports platform, Showmax Pro, in October 2023, focusing solely on original entertainment services. The upcoming version 2.0, set to launch soon, promises compatibility across various devices and potential 4K support to rival international streaming giants. 
Following Comcast’s NBCUniversal and Sky’s acquisition of a <a href="https://techpoint.africa/2023/03/03/techpoint-digest-531/" data-type="URL" data-id="https://techpoint.africa/2023/03/03/techpoint-digest-531/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">30% stake in Showmax</a> in March 2023, the platform gains access to NBCUniversal’s Peacock, enhancing its content library. Despite DStv facing challenges with a reported loss of nearly 500,000 subscribers, MultiChoice aims for a robust future, projecting R18.7 billion ($1 billion) in net revenue over the next five years.
