A<a href="https://www.thecoinrepublic.com/2023/10/25/googl-stock-correction-begin-in-alphabet-stock-after-earnings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> metaverse</a> could solve a big problem of large-scale concerts. The front row seat issue. Not everyone can claim it, neither would anyone easily dump it. Chris Dorsey, an award-winning conservation journalist, sees metaverse as a solution to this problem. From the comfort of their homes, users can attend any event they desire without having to struggle to reach the front to see the host.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="strong-accessibility-is-a-greater-issue-strong">Accessibility is a Greater Issue</h2>
Only the sky’s the limit here. From Jurassic World to Moon travel would be like taking a walk in the park. It could instantly turn boring studies into an interesting journey. One does not have to visit the school either if the teacher allows a kid to take a leave.
Chris says, “In the Metaverse, you don’t travel the world, the universe comes to you.” He speculates such experience may “replace man’s need and wanderlust for travel, but it’s likely to alter how we experience the world of the future—and the past.” Standing at a cliff of the Grand Canyon gives a different whale of a time than watching the landscape from behind the glass of a head-mounted device (HMD).
However, it can cut significant costs of travel, although at the expense of nature’s exposure. The travel industry is responsible for between 8 percent to 11 percent of global carbon emissions. Given the high consumption of fossil fuels by different means of transport, metaverse can indeed cut greenhouse gasses (GHGs), at least until electric vehicles (EVs) take over the world.
The article mentions Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook), a metaverse company, is working on an immersive concert experience. Thomas Stockwell, Head of Unscripted Series and Specials at Meta, told Forbes “Every music buff has Red Rocks on their must-see list, so why not give the world a better than front row seat through the Metaverse to experience this incredible and iconic venue as only virtual reality can deliver it?”
However, a better part of the metaverse population does not have access to metaverse technologies like virtual reality (VR), mixed reality (MR), augmented reality (AR), and more. The ones with access could not kill the ‘inequality’ of front row seats in concerts Chris is talking about.
Nearly 90 percent of people in countries like South Sudan, Burundi, Somalia, and more did not have access to the internet, let alone HMDs. Virtual worlds would be a better place with people belonging to all corners of the globe. Better infrastructure is all it takes, to turn nations labeled as developing to developed. And giving them a chance to ‘sit’ in the front row.
