Bitcoin mining giant <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/terawulfs-game-changing-move-75m-investment-in-next-gen-bitcoin-miners/">TeraWulf</a> revealed robust performance metrics for September 2023. The company announced it had self-mined 329 BTC in the month, bringing its total for Q3 to 989 BTC and the year-to-date figure to 2,430 BTC. Moreover, <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/terawulfs-game-changing-move-75m-investment-in-next-gen-bitcoin-miners/">TeraWulf</a> generated approximately $6.5 million in free cash flow in Q3 2023, according to <a href="https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2023/10/03/2753639/0/en/TeraWulf-Announces-September-2023-Production-and-Operations-Updates.html">globenewswire</a>. 
This substantial cash flow will be earmarked for debt repayment. Consequently, this move will reduce the company's future interest payments, optimizing its overall cost to mine Bitcoin. In terms of <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/crypto-mining-with-flare-gas-a-green-solution-or-environmental-setback/">electricity</a> costs, the company averaged $9.9k per Bitcoin produced or approximately $0.035/kWh in September. 
Operational efficiency was a significant focus for the firm. Sean Farrell, SVP of Operations at TeraWulf, noted that the company maintained consistent Bitcoin <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/bitcoin-miners-set-for-a-tough-ride-as-2024-halving-nears-jp-morgan/">production</a> rates despite a 2.7% increase in network difficulty. Although there were some facility downtimes at the Lake Mariner due to demand response activities, efficiency gains at Lake Mariner and Nautilus facilities offset this hiccup. 
The third quarter marked a pivotal period for TeraWulf. Patrick Fleury, Chief Financial Officer, emphasized the first full quarter of 5.5 EH/s operational capacity across the company's portfolio. With a clear financial strategy, TeraWulf aims to maximize profitability, reduce debt, and seek both organic and external growth opportunities. 
As of September 30, the company operated a fleet of around 50,000 of the latest generation miners. These are distributed between its Lake Mariner facility in New York and the Nautilus facility in Pennsylvania. The company is also on track to complete a 43 MW expansion at Lake Mariner by the end of 2023. 
TeraWulf’s commitment to environmentally friendly mining is not to be overlooked. More than 91% of the energy used for their mining activities is zero-carbon, including sources like nuclear, hydro, and solar. The company has set a goal to operate with 100% zero-carbon energy, aligning its business practices with broader ESG goals.
