The state has attracted miners for its crypto-friendly regulations and abundant energy supply, according to <a href="https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/bitcoin-miners-beef-up-texas-operations-ahead-of-extinction-level-event-exclusive-data-shows/ar-AA1hhIJU#image=2">msn</a>. 
The migration to Texas isn't just from overseas; it's domestic too. Miners from states like Nebraska, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Oklahoma have moved to <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/texas-residents-challenge-bitcoin-mining-industrys-impact-on-power-grid-and-communities/">Texas</a>. They're attracted by the state's pro-crypto stance and its energy provider, ERCOT. ERCOT, despite its struggles with energy stability, has entered into deals with <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/russias-bitcoin-gold-rush-mining-machine-influx-outpaces-rest-of-the-world/">Bitcoin miners</a>. It offers incentives to stop work during high-demand periods, allowing energy to flow back to the grid. 
Kevin Zhang, a veteran Bitcoin miner, has been in the industry for ten years. He believes that the upcoming Bitcoin "<a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/heat-waves-and-halving-bitcoin-miners-cash-in-amid-rising-prices/">halving</a>" event in April 2024 is the ultimate test for miners. The event will cut the reward for mining a new block of transactions in half, affecting revenues and potentially proving disastrous for some miners. However, Zhang remains optimistic. "If they work with us and other strong actors, they have a good chance to survive," he said.

Their new marketplace, FoundryX, facilitates the buying and selling of new and used crypto mining machines. Despite the challenges ahead, Texas miners are expanding. <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/riot-platforms-to-boost-efficiency-with-midas-immersion-coolings/">Riot</a> Platforms, for instance, has plans for aggressive expansion in other parts of Texas. <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/bitdeer-pioneers-crypto-mining-expansion-with-norway-and-bhutan-data-centers/">Bitdeer</a>, another major player, is also in expansion mode, having recently gone public. 
Texas's growth in Bitcoin mining is partly due to its flexible energy policies. Research indicates that instances of negative pricing have surged, accounting for more than 6% of all hours in 2022 across <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/senator-lummis-pushes-for-crypto-regulation-amid-sec-lawsuits/">U.S.</a> wholesale markets. These conditions are ideal for <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/russias-bitcoin-gold-rush-mining-machine-influx-outpaces-rest-of-the-world/">Bitcoin miners</a>, who can profit from the state's rapidly onboarding wind and solar energy to its grid.
