<p>Looking back on 2022, it certainly wasn’t a good year for the cryptocurrency market. Prices stagnated in a seemingly continuous bearish period alongside some significantly controversial incidents ranging from the collapse of FTX and the arrest of its founder, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Bankman-Fried" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Sam Bankman-Fried</a>, to various cryptocurrency influencers being hit with notices from the SEC leading to some, like Do Kwon from Terraform Labs, going on the run to Serbia.</p><p>But one of the biggest stories of 2022 came towards the end as the notorious internet figure Andrew Tate was apprehended and arrested at a mansion in Romania following a bizarre online feud with Greta Thunberg that led to his location being revealed to the authorities via a pizza box in the frame of one of his videos. His charge was one of the most heinous imaginable: Human trafficking. Of course, everyone is innocent until proven guilty, and the results of the trial are far from ready.</p><h2 id="header-0">Wait, Who is Andrew Tate?</h2><p>If you’re unaware of who <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Tate" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Andrew Tate</a> is, then he’s best described as an online influencer who splits opinions. Often compared to Marmite, you either love him or hate him. Since rising to fame as a world champion kickboxer, Tate has since garnered a fanbase that numbers into the millions.</p><p>Known for his flashy jet-setting lifestyle, casual purchases of luxury watches, and rare Bugatti supercars, his main selling point is to teach younger guys to be alpha males, successful, and financially rich.</p><p>To do this, Tate developed a series of online courses that taught men how to model themselves on themselves and break free from what he calls “The Matrix”. This term describes a state-controlled, NPC-like lifestyle that Tate claims most of modern society lives within.</p><p>But whilst that’s the backstory of the man who is arguably one of the most controversial online figures around today, many people are unaware of Tate’s involvement in crypto. That’s the story I want to delve into today.</p><h2 id="header-1">Andrew Tate &amp; his Friends in the Crypto Space</h2><p>The lifestyle he leads and the online reputation he brandishes has naturally led Tate to develop a network of influential and highly connected friends. Many of them made their wealth in the online space and naturally transitioned into cryptocurrency over the years, just like Tate himself.</p><p>Amongst the crypto sphere, there are many investors who are fans of Andrew Tate. So much so that he’s been interviewed by various cryptocurrency “influencers” such as Anthony Pompliano and Laya Heilpern.</p><p>Not long ago, Tate advised his fans to invest in cryptocurrency and hold on to it for three years so that they could “retire” with the resultant gains. As a result, he was applauded on major crypto channels with millions of subscribers, like Altcoin Daily.</p><p>I mean, at this point, it’s only normal that we drop a little disclaimer in here. As much as Andrew Tate is correct that you can make phenomenal gains from the crypto market, they’re never guaranteed. Plus, if you are considering investing in the crypto markets, always make sure you do your research and discover a crypto website that is essentially not trying to pull off some fraudulent scheme.  Our experience in the field has made our analysts top-notch when recognising whether a platform is credible or not. But let us not get carried away, back to our topic!</p><p>Another influential figure in the crypto space who often shared friendly conversations with Tate on social media was Michael Saylor, as the pair often discussed their Bitcoin investments with one another.</p><h2 id="header-2">How Does, or did, Tate use Crypto?</h2><p>As well as verbal promotion of cryptocurrencies, Tate often made no secret of the fact that he often used digital assets in his business ventures. One of his most widely known was called the War Room.</p><p>The War Room is a section of Andrew Tate’s official website that grants users access to a network of like-minded individuals and is essentially a course on how to be a more alpha male, financially successful, and fitter person overall. Of course, access to the room wasn’t free, which is said to have made Tate a significant income. Interestingly, he did accept BTC as payment from members.</p><p>Various crypto sleuths have discovered and revealed some of Tate’s Bitcoin wallet addresses online. One of them is believed to take membership payments for the War Room, whilst the other is used to take the resultant fees. If the wallet addresses are legit, it revealed that around $2 million worth of Bitcoin (113 BTC) passed through the wallet. A separate wallet, connected to another of Tate’s online projects called Hustler’s University, is said to have netted more than <a href="https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/ikrd/andrew-tate-hustlers-university" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">$11 million </a>in a single month!</p><h2 id="header-3">Is There a Future for Tate in the Crypto Community?</h2><p>Andrew Tate may have been charged, but no official sentence has been handed down to him. So, as of yet, he remains innocent until proven guilty. This means that his previously rather significant position in the realm of crypto influencers remains to be determined.</p><p>If he is found guilty, it will be difficult for him to retain his position of authority as few people would want to be associated with someone convicted of such a crime. However, it’s also worth mentioning that Tate already had several enemies within the crypto space before the recent arrest.</p><p>Take Peter McCormack, for example. The well-known crypto influencer is behind the popular podcast called The What Bitcoin Did Podcast, which conducts interviews with various digital currency experts and discusses various fascinating topics surrounding the development of Bitcoin development, debates around its privacy, investment advice and mainstream adoption.</p><p>McCormack made no secret of his dislike for Tate and often publicly criticised him. Plus he also called out Laya Heilpern for her public support for Tate.</p><h2 id="header-4">Is Tate’s Association With Cryptocurrency Damaging?</h2><p>One of the reasons that Tate was able to cement a firm position as an influencer in the crypto community is likely due to his appeal to some corners of crypto fans who base their interest in decentralised currency on an anarchic or libertarian outlook on life. Tate is not only a strong advocate of crypto, but he’s also publicly anti-authoritarian.</p><p>However, Tate’s overall success and notoriety didn’t come from crypto. After a successful kickboxing career, Tate developed a controversial online persona that was accused of being misogynistic and many other things. But the crypto segment of his popularity came much more recently.</p><p>Some might claim that the association of people like Tate with cryptocurrency is a bad thing as it damages the mission of digital currencies like Bitcoin, which strive towards being an entirely legit and acceptable form of currency amongst mainstream society, from state-level lawmakers to everyday business owners.</p><p>For some, the scenes of Tate being led away in handcuffs were another unwanted blow to the crypto community in 2022. However, those who are educated enough will understand that anybody can associate themselves with cryptocurrency. Yet, it doesn’t detract from the overall advantages that decentralised technology can bring to the world.</p><p>After all, the USD is also a currency we’ve often seen associated with everything from organised crime to arms dealing worldwide, yet it doesn’t stop people from using it. It’s been a rough year for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, but as we move into 2023, many experts predict a bright future.</p>
