<p><strong>BitShares Blockchain enables several financial innovations and functions such as: User Issued Asset (UIA), Market Pegged Asset or Smart Assets (MPA), Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT), Decentralized Exchange Engine (DEX), Decentralized Finance (DeFi), Automated Market Maker or liquidity pools (AMM) and Hashed Time-lock Contract (HTLC).</strong></p><h2 id="header-0"><em>Decentralized Exchange (DEX)</em></h2><p>The decentralized exchange (DEX) of BitShares has a similar look &amp; feel as traditional centralized exchanges. However, trading in the DEX can have many different appearances, depending on what user-interface is used.</p><h2 id="header-1"><em>Decentralized User Issued Asset (UIA)</em></h2><p>Issued Assets are custom tokens registered by users, which users can hold and trade within certain restrictions the issuer user had set. creator of such an asset publicly names, describes, and distributes its tokens, and can specify customized   requirements, such as an approved whitelist of accounts permitted to hold the tokens, or the associated trading and transfer fees.</p><h2 id="header-2"><em>Decentralized Market Pegged Asset (MPA) or Smart Assets (Smart Contracts)</em></h2><p>Smart Assets are fully collateralized, and the issuer of Smart Asset should appoint price feed producers for collateral margin call. Unlike deposit receipts, the value of a Smart Asset is secured even if the issuer disappears as price feed producers can continue to feed the price of collaterals.</p><h2 id="header-3"><em>Decentralized Finance (DeFi)</em></h2><p>DeFi feature allow   users to offer a loan against collaterals over the DEX platform in a decentralized manner while the DEX is allowing user to invest in collateralized assets in order to issue them then sell them to the market or propose them as a credit offer.</p><h2 id="header-4"><em>Decentralized Liquidity Pools (LP) and Automated Market Maker (AMM)</em></h2><p>In addition to traditional order book built-in matching system, decentralized liquidity pools allow users to create liquidity pools and stake a pair of assets in a pool as an investment - thus earning yield through exchange revenues.</p><h2 id="header-5"><em>Decentralized Prediction Market Engine</em></h2><p>A prediction market runs through a smart asset which has a price between 0 and 1 and the issuer settles all positions after the event occurs and the final price is known.
