This Week in GameFi: Crypto Gaming Presses Pause As Bitcoin Hits ATH

Содержание

Introduction

Good morning! I’m writing this on Halloween, also the inception of the cryptocurrency sector, because on Oct. 31, 2008, Satoshi Nakamoto (not Peter Todd!) published the seminal Bitcoin whitepaper.
This week, 16 years later, Bitcoin finally hit a new all-time high (ATH).  The overall market and sentiment on crypto Twitter is extremely bullish for Bitcoin and, as a result, riskier bets like GameFi tokens are taking a backseat for the time being.

It’s a good time to press pause and look back at the gains this year. Web3 gaming has faced considerable skepticism after its 2021 hype fizzled out, yet the industry has transformed significantly. Developers have reimagined gameplay mechanics, reward systems, and inclusivity, leading to a revitalized GameFi sector that's stronger than ever.

As GameFi continues to mature, the blend of in-game economies, high-budget titles, and improved blockchain infrastructure is positioning the sector for sustained expansion within the digital asset market.

Recent projections suggest that the GameFi market could hit $301.5 billion by 2030, driven by advancements in AAA title gaming, creative token ecosystems, and increased user engagement through community-building across platforms like Discord and Telegram.

Market Overview

The GameFi market cap went down from $20 billion to around $18 billion in the last seven days after a bullish October. Overall, its recovery continues as developers and communities rally around new launches, high-profile partnerships, and ecosystem growth across multiple blockchains.

Blockchain Gaming Activity This Week

There are new gaming contenders in town, but the incumbents are not slacking either, and the crypto gaming landscape is continuing to see dramatic shifts in user engagement:

  • MatchQuest outperforms this week with 3.6K UAW and a partnership with Paris Saint-Germain, which saw it take the number one spot on DappRadar over seven days.
  • Pixudi shines with 75% gains as they prepare for their Halloween event.
  • Lol keeps up the fight with almost 73% growth as they launched an NFT collection.
  • KGeN does well with a 57% increase. They are all about taking back control of your data and flexing your cred across chains and games.
  • GombleGames shows steady growth of 32% with fresh, new adventures every month.

1.Off the Grid Numbers Shine Despite Promotional Drop

Off The Grid, the Web3 extraction shooter built on Avalanche, saw impressive early traction. It topped the Epic Games Store’s Free to Play list at launch, even surpassing Fortnite. While it’s out of Twitch's top 100, it maintains a strong user base with 500,000 daily active addresses (DAA) and 6.6 million unique addresses on-chain. Some suggest its initial surge to 850,000 DAA was boosted by paid promotions, yet the game remains significant for bridging Web3 and mainstream gaming.

2. Kroma Network Partners with GameFi.org

Kroma Network has partnered with GameFi.org to enhance the Web3 gaming experience by connecting game creators, investors and players across both platforms.

This collaboration introduces $spETH as a payment option for GameFi.org’s IDOs, expanding transaction flexibility for supporting blockchain projects.

Ubisoft has launched Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, its first full-fledged NFT game, on the blockchain gaming network Oasys. This free-to-play, PC-based tactical strategy game allows players to assemble teams of fantasy-themed characters to compete in turn-based battles. Available on Ubisoft Connect, it features optional NFTs and marks Ubisoft's most significant move into blockchain gaming after years of smaller experiments and ecosystem support in the Web3 space.

3. MetalCore Moves to Solana for S2

Mech shooter game MetalCore, originally launched on Immutable zkEVM, will soon switch to the Solana blockchain for its second season in November. Developer Studio 369 cited Solana’s high transaction capacity and expanding ecosystem as reasons for the switch, though it declined to comment on its experience with the Ethereum scaling network when asked.

4. 'Samurai Shodown R' Launching on SuiPlay0x1 Device

Mysten Labs has announced that Samurai Shodown R, a genre-bending MMORPG adaptation of the classic fighting game, will launch on the Sui blockchain-powered SuiPlay0x1 handheld console in 2025.
