Executive summary

Five takeaways, each anchored to one chart.

The market is real and compounding, but smaller on-chain than the headline. Cumulative on-chain DEX volume since launch is ~$7.05B (Ondo $5.04B + xStocks $2.01B, CMC Dashboard), yet directly verifiable on-chain TVL across the two leading issuers is ~$1.05B (Ondo $638M + xStocks $408M, 23 Jun) on ~$1.30B of trailing-30-day DEX volume.
A two-issuer on-chain market that flips depending on the metric. By on-chain TVL and DEX volume, Ondo now leads ($638M TVL, $884M/30d, $5.0B cumulative). xStocks leads on breadth of holders (162k vs 70k) and trade count (1.8M vs 314k), but with a far smaller average trade ($230 vs $2,820). xStocks's widely-cited $25B is mostly CEX-matched volume; on-chain DEX, Ondo is ahead (§3, §4.1).
One clearing pipe under every wrapper. Every product in scope except Coinbase (Apex) clears through Alpaca — xStocks, Ondo, bStocks, Binance brokerage, Bitget, and Dinari (for Bitget this is the rToken layer; its separate Stock+ direct-share product clears via RQD Clearing + Atomic Vaults). Differentiation at the wrapper layer collapses into commonality at the clearing layer (§2.2, §5).
Binance's entry changes the axis of competition. Brokerage-first (7,000+ instruments via Nest Trading/Alpaca, 1 Jun) + bStocks (admitted to trading 11–12 Jun, 24/7, zero-fee 1:1 conversion, self-custody withdrawal on BNB Chain) competes on breadth, rights and peg-tightness rather than wrapper engineering. bStocks on-chain market cap went from $4M to $63M in its first eight days (§2.3, §4.8).
SpaceX is the category's first hot single-name — and the cleanest proof that the wrapper, not the asset, sets the terms. Within ~10 days of the 12 June IPO, SPCX carried ~$76M of tokenized value across three venues (bStocks $42M, xStocks $24M, Ondo $10M) while the same share priced from $122 to $176 depending on venue type. On Binance's brand-new bStocks, SpaceX alone was ~68% of all on-chain value by 18 June (§4.8).

Product differentiation

What you actually hold, by venue.

2.1Taxonomy: one axis, two models

The cleaner cut than "asset-backed vs broker-embedded" (which conflates legal wrapper with acquisition plumbing) is rights + accessibility: tokenized instruments (no shareholder rights — tracker certificates, loan/debt notes, OTC-derivative tokens, self-minted certificates) vs. real-brokerage equity (full rights, broker-custodied, tokenization downstream and optional). The boundary case that stress-tests it is bStocks (real-brokerage acquisition, tokenized-instrument holding, with a contractual right to convert 1:1 to the underlying). The accessibility axis is also not binary: the niche Dinari product (§2.2) reaches US-accredited investors under Rule 506(c), so render accessibility as none / accredited-only / retail rather than a simple yes/no.

Note on coverage: Dinari dShares is excluded from this comparison due to its small market share and only used in Gemini EU market. In brief: Dinari issues OTC-derivative dShares (1:1 via its own brokers, Alpaca-cleared), transferable on-chain under a whitelist across Arbitrum/Ethereum/Base, and is notable only as the one tokenized instrument US-accessible to accredited investors under Rule 506(c) (SEC transfer-agent + broker-dealer registered; Gemini-KID 7/7 risk). A regulated-US wedge worth watching, but too small to rank.

2.3Structural deep-dives

Ondo GM — total-return drift as a feature and a measurement trap. Dividends reinvest into the token, so the token-to-share ratio drifts upward; the token deliberately does not track the ticker. Consequence: premium/discount analysis must use accrued NAV, not the exchange quote. The structure is mint-on-demand (Alpaca buys the underlying per order, no warehoused inventory), issued as a loan note by an unregulated BVI entity. The Broadridge on-chain preference-expression program (launched 28 Apr 2026, 250+ stocks & ETFs — preference-expression, not shareholder voting) is the first sign of the rights gap narrowing.
Binance bStocks — conversion as the peg mechanism. Two-stage: buy real equity via Nest Trading (ADGM) with Alpaca clearing/custody, then optionally self-tokenize 1:1 onto BNB Chain. Because conversion is free, instant and bidirectional, any bStocks price deviation from the brokerage quote is a riskless arbitrage for any user. It is structurally tighter than mint/redeem wrappers gated by issuer windows and fees. §4.8 shows this on SpaceX.
Bitget Stocks 2.0 — cash-flow realism. rTokens pay cash dividends in USDT and map splits on-chain, with Alpaca (FINRA/SIPC) clearing. It's a deliberate contrast to total-return reinvestment, aimed at users who want stock-like cash flows rather than accreting tokens. Margin-collateral usability ties tokenized equity into the exchange's derivatives economy.
xStocks — the distribution-alliance model. Bankruptcy-remote Jersey issuance, Solana-native with multi-chain reach (CCIP), distributed through an alliance (Kraken, Bybit, Gate, Bitget Wallet, DeFi venues) rather than a single venue, now extended to a regulated European secondary venue via 360X (Deutsche Börse). Kraken's acquisition of Backed means the "market-neutral framework" is now owned by one venue.

The two on-chain issuers serve different behaviour: xStocks is broad and retail-grained (more holders, ~6× the trade count, sub-$250 tickets), while Ondo is deeper-pocketed on average ($2,820 mean vs $92 median — a small number of large trades doing most of the dollar volume).

Read — held ≠ traded, and bStocks changes SpaceX: The value leaderboard looks different from the volume one. STRC (Strategy's preferred) is a top held name (~$129M, almost all xStocks) yet barely trades — pure warehoused collateral. Adding bStocks' on-chain mcap (gold) lifts SpaceX (SPCX) to ~$76M held — SPCXB alone adds ~$42M, vaulting it from #9 to the top tier (held, not circulated; the §4.8 finding).

3.4Velocity: volume-to-TVL turnover

Methodology: on-chain DEX volume only — not comparable to CEX-reported figures (xStocks's $25B is mostly Kraken/Bybit order-book matching, off-chain; bStocks' primary trading is the Binance book, also off-chain). On a like-for-like on-chain basis Ondo both holds more and turns it over faster (§4.1). bStocks volume is a single recent day (18 Jun) since it has <30 days of history.

Read: 1inch ($4.7B, an EVM aggregator routing Ondo's BNB/ETH flow) and Raydium ($1.5B, Solana for xStocks) dominate, with Byreal, CoW and the Jupiter stack behind. The split mirrors the issuer/chain divide: Ondo→EVM/aggregators, xStocks→Solana AMMs.

Qualitatively: Ondo assets bridge to Hyperliquid HyperEVM (35 assets, basis/delta-neutral against perps, themselves out of scope) and distribute via Binance Alpha, Bitget, MetaMask, Blockchain.com; xStocks circulate across Kraken/Bybit/Gate, Solana DeFi (Jupiter, Raydium, Phantom) and a TON wallet in Telegram; Bitget rTokens serve as margin collateral; bStocks supports self-custody withdrawal from launch.

Venue market share & rankings

Volume share, then the quality dimensions volume hides, ending in the SpaceX case study.

4.1Volume share

On-chain DEX volume by chain, trailing 30d

Where on-chain flow actually happens. Never merged with CEX-reported volume.

BNB Chain$787M · OndoSolana$446M · Solana (≈93% xStocks)Ethereum$68M · Ondo
Read: BNB Chain ($787M, all Ondo) is now the largest on-chain venue, ahead of Solana ($446M, almost all xStocks) and Ethereum ($68M, Ondo). xStocks remains Solana-anchored.

Precedent for how fast share moves: Kraken's venue share fell from ~97% to ~55% within months of Bitget's Sep 2025 entry. Distribution, not wrapper engineering, moves share, which cuts in Binance's favour (§5).

On-chain DEX volume by venue — Thu 18 Jun 2026

Single-day, on-chain only. bStocks = BNB-chain L1D volume; Ondo = BNB+ETH; xStocks = Solana.

Ondo (BNB+ETH)$39.0MxStocks (Solana)$19.7MbStocks (BNB)$0.96M
Critical caveat: this is on-chain DEX volume only. bStocks' primary venue is the Binance CEX order book, which is not public — so $0.96M understates total bStocks trading by an unknown but large multiple. The on-chain slice is mostly self-custodied supply that is held, not DEX-churned (bStocks on-chain velocity ≈1.5%/day vs Ondo 6% / xStocks 5%).

Why bStocks is the dark horse:

  • Fastest ramp in the market. bStocks on-chain market cap went $4M → $63M in 8 days (≈15×), and daily on-chain volume rose +67% day-over-day into 18 Jun — both still accelerating (§4.8 chart).
  • Already 10–15% of incumbents' on-chain value ($63M vs xStocks $408M / Ondo $638M TVL) — from a standing start, against issuers with 8–12 months' head start and 64–327 live tickers to bStocks' 6.
  • SpaceX is the engine. SPCXB is ~68% of all bStocks on-chain value (~$42M) and the #1 bStock by volume; the top three are SPCXB, MUB, CRCLB (§4.8).
  • The low on-chain velocity is the tell. bStocks holders are tokenizing-and-holding (self-custody), not round-tripping on DEXs, which is consistent with the zero-fee conversion peg (§4.4): you convert to hold/withdraw, and trade on the Binance book.

Across both on-chain issuers, 353 distinct stocks are tokenized; 327 (Ondo) and 64 (xStocks) saw on-chain activity in the last 30 days. "Effective range" (tickers with >$100k daily volume) is far narrower than listings everywhere — the report's original framing.

Read: Ondo is live across 327 tickers vs xStocks' 64 — Ondo's mint-on-demand model lists far more names, even if a handful (CRCL, MRVL, MU) carry most of the volume (§4.6).

4.3Premium / discount to NAV

Documented stress cases (Jul 2025): an AAPL token traded +12% intraday (3 Jul); an AMZN token spiked to ~4× underlying off-hours (5 Jul) — early stablecoin-style depegs in thin books. Structural hypothesis, now rankable ex ante from Andy's window data: peg tightness should track arbitrage friction —

bStocks (free 24/7 conversion)  >  xStocks (24/5 mint/redeem)  >  Ondo (Sun 8pm–Fri 7:59pm ET)

4.4Off-hours volume share

The on-chain data makes the weekend effect visible. Charting daily DEX volume by chain over the trailing 30 days, a sharp pattern emerges: Ondo's BNB-chain volume collapses to near-zero every weekend — its mint/redeem window closes Friday 8pm ET — while xStocks on Solana keeps trading right through, its 24/5–24/7 issuer window and Solana DeFi leaving liquidity open.

Daily on-chain DEX volume by chain (30d) — the weekend gap

Stacked daily volume. Weekends (Sat/Sun) shaded. USD.

BNB (Ondo)Solana (xStocks)Ethereum (Ondo)
$0$30M$60M$90M$120M05-2406-0806-23
Read: Every shaded weekend, total volume drops ~70–90%, which matches almost entirely the disappearance of Ondo/BNB flow, since Ondo's mint window is shut. xStocks/Solana volume persists.

Institutional demand for off-hours risk management is documented, where weekend geopolitical flares left desks unable to adjust. SpaceX's first-week trading (§4.8) was disproportionately weekend/off-hours, since the token markets traded around the Friday 12 Jun listing.

4.6Volume concentration (HHI)

Ticker-level Herfindahl–Hirschman Index, computed over each issuer's named tickers from 30d on-chain DEX volume. The two issuers sit at opposite ends of the concentration scale:

IssuerTicker-level HHITop nameTop-3 shareReading
xStocks~2,565CRCLx (41.8%)CRCL + NVDA + TSLA ≈ 78%Highly concentrated (>2,500)
Ondo GM~798MRVLon (18.1%)MRVL + MU + CRCL ≈ 41%Unconcentrated (<1,500)

On the US-merger-guideline scale (HHI >2,500 = highly concentrated), xStocks's on-chain flow is dominated by a handful of names — Circle, NVIDIA and Tesla alone are ~78% of its DEX volume — while Ondo's is broadly spread across its 327 active tickers. Computed over named tickers only; the long "Others" tail would lower both modestly.

4.7All-in cost to trade

The cost stack = explicit trading fee (published schedules below) + mint/redeem or conversion fee + wrapper/management fee + measured spread. On the explicit-fee layer, the venues cluster tightly, and bStocks' zero conversion fee is the structural standout:

VenueTrading feeMint / convert / redeemWrapper / mgmt fee
xStocks · Kraken0% with USDG/USD; else Instant-Buy spread (Pro: −0.02% maker / 0.10% taker)None to user (issuer mints)None disclosed

Binance bStocks0% maker (launch promo) / 0.10% taker0% conversion, instant, bidirectionalNone
Primary subscription (Kraken/Bybit, e.g. SPCX)—+5% subscription fee on fixed price—

Explicit fees are low and converging across venues (0–0.10% for secondary trades); the real cost differentiator is the spread and, for primary access, the +5% subscription fee. bStocks is the only venue with a structurally zero conversion cost between brokerage and token, reinforcing the §4.3 peg argument. Sources: Kraken xStocks page, Bybit fee schedule / xStocks FAQ, Ondo GM docs (investing & redeeming), Bitget Stocks 2.0 release, Binance bStocks announcement (10 Jun).

4.8Case study: SpaceX (SPCX) across venues — one asset, many wrappers

SpaceX listed on Nasdaq on 12 June 2026 at a $135 fixed IPO price (a ~20% final retail allocation (cut from a 30% target before pricing, on institutional demand)). It is the first genuinely hot single name the tokenized-stock category has had.

Read: Within ~10 days of listing, SPCX carried ~$76M of tokenized value across three venues — and the largest balance was on Binance's brand-new bStocks (~$42M, 18 Jun), ahead of xStocks ($24M) and Ondo ($10M). On bStocks, SpaceX alone was 67.6% of all on-chain value by 18 Jun.

$0M$23M$47M$70M06-1006-1406-18$4M$62.8M
Read: The three venues express the same demand in three different forms. On Ondo, SPCXon traded ~$13.0M on-chain in its first 12 days, but quickly reduced in volume. On xStocks, SPCXx is the opposite: a top balance ($24M TVL) but on-chain DEX volume below the top-30 threshold. On bStocks, SpaceX drove total on-chain market cap from $4M to $63M in eight days.

What SpaceX tells us

  • Demand fragments by wrapper, not by asset. The same name shows up as held collateral on xStocks, as DEX flow on Ondo, and as CEX-traded + self-custodied supply on bStocks. A venue's "share" of SpaceX depends entirely on which behaviour you measure.
  • bStocks captured the largest on-chain SpaceX balance from a standing start. Eight days after launch, with six listings total, Binance held more on-chain SPCX value than either incumbent issuer. This is direct evidence for the §5 thesis that distribution + a zero-fee conversion peg can win a hot name fast.
  • The conversion peg held. Spot tokenized SpaceX tracked the $135 offering while perps ran +30%. That is the §4.3 hypothesis confirmed at the bStocks/subscription end of the spectrum.

Scope discipline: perpetual futures (OKX, Bitget, Hyperliquid, Binance) and event markets (Polymarket) are out of this report's spot-only scope. They appear here solely as price-discovery context for the cross-venue spread; none are counted in the tokenized-value or volume figures above.

Strategic read

bStocks enters with a structural advantage and a liquidity deficit. The zero-fee 1:1 conversion gives it the tightest theoretical peg in the market and the deepest catalog ceiling (7,000-instrument brokerage base), but xStocks and Ondo enter June 2026 with 8–12 months of accumulated holders (162k / 70k), DeFi integrations and on-chain depth ($408M / $638M TVL). The SpaceX case (§4.8) shows the advantage is real and fast-acting: bStocks took the largest on-chain SpaceX balance within eight days.
The on-chain ranking has quietly flipped to Ondo. On a like-for-like on-chain basis, Ondo does lead the market: TVL ($638M vs $408M), 30d DEX volume ($884M vs $416M), cumulative ($5.0B vs $2.0B). xStocks's lead survives only on holder breadth and total (CEX-inclusive) volume.
Institutional rails are forming around issuers, not venues. xStocks × 360X (Deutsche Börse), Ondo × Clearstream/360X partnership (Apr 2026) and a separate DTC/UCC Article 8 framework — two distinct arrangements, not one consortium, Ondo admitted to Binance's own ADGM MTF, Flow Traders quoting 24/7 OTC. By 2027 the relevant share question may be issuer-level, not venue-level — favouring whoever owns issuance (Binance/bStocks, Kraken/Backed, Ondo, Bitget/Reality).

Appendix

  • A. Methodology: represented value vs TVL vs circulating cap; CEX vs on-chain volume non-additivity; on-chain = secondary DEX trades (xStocks = dex_solana.trades + EVM dex.trades; Ondo = result_dex_ondo); holders deduped per protocol, aggregate dedup SOL+EVM (excludes TON); off-hours definition (US/Eastern); Ondo NAV-drift adjustment. On-chain figures as_of 23 Jun 2026 and drift daily.
  • B. Live data sources (verified): CMC Dashboard · xStocks official dashboard dune.com/xstocks/xstocks + EVM · Ondo official dashboard dune.com/ondo/ondo-global-markets · Steakhouse Tokenized Securities · app.rwa.xyz/stocks · issuer disclosures (Kraken xStocks blog, Binance bStocks announcements 1 & 10 Jun, Bitget Stocks 2.0 / Reality, Gemini/Dinari KID, Backed prospectus) · SpaceX venue tracker (Cboe/IPO book/OKX/Bitget/Hyperliquid/Polymarket/Hiive/Notice APIs, 12 Jun) · bStocks on-chain performance pack (BSC, T+1, 18 Jun) · fee schedules (Kraken xStocks page, Bybit fee schedule / xStocks FAQ, Ondo GM docs — investing & redeeming, Bitget Stocks 2.0 release, Binance bStocks announcement) for §4.7.
  • C. Data provenance: on-chain figures (TVL, DEX volume, holders, traders) are a fresh pull from CMC Dashboard (id 213732), as of 23 June 2026, covering xStocks (Backed) + Ondo Global Markets, DEX-only, stocks-only (ETFs excluded). They are not market-wide: Dinari, bStocks CEX volume, Bitget, Coinbase and all CEX order-book volume are sourced separately from issuer disclosures, exchange announcements, and labelled inline.
