Bitcoin Solo Miner Wins $210K Despite Near-Zero Hashrate

A solo Bitcoin miner validated block 943,411 on April 2, earning 3.139 $BTC from the win. At current prices, that reward was worth approximately $210,000, covering both the standard block subsidy and network transaction fees.

The #miner operated roughly 230 terahashes per second of computing power. That represents about 0.00002% of Bitcoin's estimated total #hashrate of approximately one zetahash per second. CKpool developer Con Kolivas confirmed the result on X, noting the miner faced roughly 1-in-28,000 daily odds of finding a block.

For perspective, listed miner Riot Platforms alone runs more than 30 exahashes of computing power. That is roughly 130,000 times the output of the winning rig. The April 2 block still went to the smaller operator.

The winning miner used   solo.ckpool.org, an anonymous mining pool that has been operating since 2014. The platform lets participants keep their full block rewards minus a 2% fee. This win was the 312th solo block recorded on CKpool since its launch.

It was also the first win on the platform since Feb. 28, ending a 33-day gap. Over the past 12 months, solo pools have found just 20 #Bitcoin blocks in total. Those wins distributed a combined 62.96 $BTC at an average pace of roughly one block every 18.7 days.

Improbable solo wins have appeared with some regularity in recent months. In December, a miner running around 270 terahashes beat 1-in-30,000 daily odds to claim approximately $284,633. In November, a rig generating just 6 terahashes overcame 1-in-180-million odds to secure roughly $265,000. In late February, a miner converted about $75 of rented cloud hashrate into a $200,000 reward by directing one petahash at CKpool for a few hours. #mining
