Trump's Cyber Strategy Backs Crypto and Blockchain Security for First Time
The #Trump administration released its National Cyber Strategy on Friday, and it names cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies as areas the federal government will protect. Galaxy Digital's head of firmwide research, Alex Thorn, called it a first for any U.S. cybersecurity strategy.
#Crypto #Blockchain
The relevant language appears in a section focused on U.S. superiority in critical and emerging technologies. The document states that the government will "build secure technologies and supply chains that protect user privacy from design to deployment, including supporting the security of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies." The six-page strategy covers six policy pillars that guide federal cyber priorities.
The document places blockchain #security alongside artificial intelligence and quantum computing. Thorn said this framing positions decentralized technology as part of the country's broader competition with foreign rivals. He noted the inclusion in an X post on Friday.
Thorn also flagged a separate passage pledging to "uproot criminal infrastructure and deny financial exit and safe haven." He said that language "could easily justify crackdowns on mixers, privacy coins, and unregulated off-ramps." #Bitcoin
Castle Island Ventures founder Nic Carter highlighted the strategy's treatment of quantum computing. The document commits the government to accelerating its adoption of post-quantum cryptography across federal information systems. Carter, who has publicly warned about quantum computing risks to
$BTC, responded cautiously, writing: "Sure seems like they're taking quantum seriously."
