24/7 futures trading is heading to a public hearing in Washington. On October 28, 2026, the <a href="https://www.coingabbar.com/en/cftc-crypto-exchange-registration-voluntary-path-selig-btc-watch" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">CFTC announced</a> an industry roundtable for December 15 to discuss whether US derivatives markets can move to round-the-clock trading.&nbsp;
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission December meeting will take place at the agency's headquarters.

The session builds on a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/07/28/2026-15216/request-for-comment-on-the-extension-of-standard-futures-contracts-to-247-trading-and-on-perpetual" style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255)" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">request for comment</a> the regulator issued earlier this summer. That notice looked at running standard futures nonstop and at perpetual contracts tied to energy commodities.
<h2 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-why-is-round-the-clock-trading-back-on-the-agenda-span-span">Why Is Round-the-Clock Trading Back on the Agenda?</h2>
Crypto never closes, and that contrast keeps 24/7 futures trading in the spotlight. Digital asset venues trade every hour of every day, while US futures market hours largely run in sessions with daily breaks and weekend closures.
Perpetual contracts, a staple of <a href="https://www.coingabbar.com/en/crypto-blogs-details/spot-trading-vs-futures-trading-crypto-guide" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">crypto futures trading</a>, have no fixed expiration and rely on a periodic funding rate. The roundtable announcement does not name them, but they were part of the summer notice on CFTC 24/7 trading.
<h2 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-which-issues-will-the-cftc-roundtable-cover-span-span">Which Issues Will the CFTC Roundtable Cover?</h2>
The agency lists four areas for discussion:
<ul>
 <li>Overnight trading</li>
 <li>Tokenization</li>
 <li>Infrastructure and staffing needs</li>
 <li>Operational readiness</li>
</ul>
Participants are expected to discuss how the Commission can promote responsible innovation while protecting market participants and preserving the integrity of US derivatives markets.&nbsp;
Tokenization appears without product details, so tokenized derivatives remain an open question for the session.
<h2 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-will-one-rulebook-fit-every-market-span-span">Will One Rulebook Fit Every Market?</h2>
Chairman&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cftc.gov/About/Commissioners/MichaelSelig/index.htm" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Michael Selig</a> said the CFTC will not take a one-size-fits-all approach to 24/7 trading. He added that the roundtable aims to hear industry views across different asset classes.
That wording suggests CFTC trading regulations could differ by product. For 24/7 futures trading, no rule proposal has been announced so far.
<h2 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-how-can-the-public-follow-the-debate-span-span">How Can the Public Follow the Debate?</h2>
The event is open to the public and will be <a href="https://www.cftc.gov/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">livestreamed on CFTC.gov</a>. In-person places may be limited, and visitors will face security checks.

Agenda, speaker and registration details will be posted later. Speaker nominations from the public are accepted by email, as listed in the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cftc.gov/PressRoom/PressReleases/9318-26" style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255)" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">official CFTC announcement</a>.
<h2 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-expert-take-what-could-decide-the-future-of-nonstop-futures-markets-span-span">Expert Take: What Could Decide the Future of Nonstop Futures Markets?</h2>
The data suggests 24/7 futures trading is still an early-stage discussion. No speaker list, rule text or start date has been released.
The agenda gives the clearest signals. Overnight trading, infrastructure and staffing point to practical questions about clearing, margin and monitoring when no session ends. Those are analysis points, not findings from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
The main uncertainty is whether regulators treat each asset class separately. Views on 24-hour financial markets may also differ between exchanges, clearing firms and traders. A follow-up notice or the final speaker list could change the picture.
<h2 id="span-span-style-font-size-16px-conclusion-span-span">Conclusion</h2>
The December 15 roundtable is a listening session, not a rule change. Still, it moves nonstop futures markets from a consultation topic to a scheduled public debate.&nbsp;
This derivatives market update joins a steady run of futures trading news and <a href="https://www.coingabbar.com/en/cftc-regulation-ctx-cam-anprm-60-day-crypto-comment-period" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">crypto regulation news</a> around US markets.
Cryptocurrency news and traditional finance now overlap more often, since crypto already trades nonstop. Crypto news updates will likely track the next steps, and a daily roundup of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.coingabbar.com/en/crypto-news-english" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">crypto news today</a> lists them as they appear.
