Collector Crypt’s randomized trading-card packs illustrate a growing market whose economics differ sharply from conventional DeFi.

Polymarket generated more fees than Hyperliquid in October, a reversal that illustrates how cryptocurrency applications built around events, speculation and collectibles are competing with established trading platforms for user spending.

The prediction-market operator recorded $126.7 million in fees during the month, according to . Its U.S. exchange contributed 73.3% of the total as traders positioned ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.

Two other consumer businesses also stood out: Solana memecoin launchpad pump.fun recorded its strongest month since January 2025, while tokenized trading-card marketplace Collector Crypt reached a new high.

Their business models share a reliance on transaction activity but differ in how they attract customers, retain fees and absorb operating costs.

Polymarket’s Election Windfall Has a Measurable Cost

The October surge followed Polymarket’s introduction of trading charges in January 2026, ending its earlier broadly fee-free approach.

The platform now applies taker fees to eligible markets, with charges determined partly by the probability implied in a contract’s price. Under its , fees are highest around a 50% probability and decline as an outcome becomes more certain.

This gives Polymarket a different economic profile from exchanges that charge a relatively straightforward percentage of trading volume.

For example, under the published 4% political-market parameter, a trade involving 100 contracts priced at $0.50 generates a $1 fee before rebates. At $0.90, the same number of contracts generates $0.36.

Fee generation therefore depends on the composition of trading activity, not merely the number of contracts exchanged.

Polymarket also redistributes part of eligible taker fees to market makers, while separate incentives reward competitive liquidity provision. Its lists a 25% rebate allocation for political markets.

These payments are designed to encourage tighter spreads and more reliable execution, but reduce the share of gross fees available to the platform.

Geopolitical markets are listed as fee-free under the published schedule, adding another complication to comparisons across event categories.

October’s result demonstrates the platform’s ability to monetize election-related trading. Its longer-term earnings capacity will depend on how much activity migrates to sports, finance and other recurring markets after the electoral catalyst disappears.

The categories should not be valued using identical multiples.

Tether and Circle benefit principally from income earned on stablecoin reserves, making their economics sensitive to interest rates, reserve composition and circulating supply.

Tron’s fees arise from network usage. Hyperliquid and consumer trading applications depend more directly on transaction activity, although fee-sharing arrangements and incentives affect what each business retains.

Polymarket’s reported fees exceeded Hyperliquid’s by approximately 35% in October. That does not establish that Polymarket was more profitable.

Pump.fun’s October performance followed a period in which newer launchpads challenged its dominance.

Flap on BNB Chain led the category in August, followed by Pons on Robinhood Chain in September, according to Token Terminal. Pump.fun returned to first place in October.

The recovery suggests that launchpad leadership remains contestable despite Solana’s established memecoin trading ecosystem.

Pump.fun earns fees from activity surrounding token creation and trading. Its economics are linked to turnover rather than the long-term performance of the tokens themselves.

That creates a business with potentially strong fee generation during speculative surges but limited protection against abrupt declines in trading demand.

The platform’s previous high coincided with the January 2025 launch of the TRUMP memecoin, when speculative activity spread across Solana.

Competition also complicates the interpretation of rising fees. A launchpad can gain market share through lower charges, trading incentives or temporary user migration without improving its retained revenue proportionately.

The useful comparison between pump.fun and its competitors is therefore not simply which generated the most fees in a single month. It is how much trading activity each can retain without increasingly expensive incentives.

Collector Crypt Turns Physical Cards Into Repeat Transactions

Collector Crypt offers a more unusual example of blockchain-based consumer spending.

Its platform connects tokenized, professionally graded trading cards with physical inventory held in custody. Customers can buy individual collectibles, but randomized packs, commonly called gacha, account for much of the activity described by Token Terminal.

Buyers pay a fixed price without knowing which card they will receive. The resulting token can be held, traded, redeemed for the physical collectible or, where available, sold back to the platform.

The October fee total was 4.3 times its year-earlier level, equivalent to approximately 330% growth.

Unlike a decentralized exchange, the business must manage an underlying inventory of physical assets. Authentication, vaulting, insurance, shipping and redemption can all affect operating margins.

Collector Crypt’s illustrate the additional costs. Redeeming a physical card involves a withdrawal charge based on its insured value, subject to a minimum, alongside shipping and applicable duties.

Solana’s relatively inexpensive transactions help make frequent digital transfers practical, but low blockchain costs do not eliminate physical fulfillment expenses.

Randomized packs also create a different demand profile from traditional collectibles trading. Customers may purchase repeatedly to obtain rare cards, making pack economics more dependent on prize distribution, inventory pricing and the perceived value of potential outcomes.

That introduces consumer-protection considerations alongside ordinary marketplace competition.

The Missing Metric Is Retained Revenue

Token Terminal’s October figures establish that users are paying substantial amounts to participate in activities outside conventional cryptocurrency investing.

They do not establish how much profit the applications generate.

Polymarket allocates fees to trading incentives. Memecoin launchpads may share transaction economics with token creators or other participants. Collector Crypt must support a physical-asset business alongside its digital marketplace.

Even the largest reported fee total can conceal materially different margins.

For investors comparing these applications, the next useful disclosures would be retained revenue, incentive expenditure, repeat-customer activity and operating costs. Without those measures, fee rankings are best treated as evidence of transaction demand rather than proof of durable earnings.

The November data will be particularly revealing for Polymarket. October captured the final weeks before a major U.S. election; the following month will begin to show how its business performs without the same political trading catalyst.
