Ethereum Layer 2 network Blast, which became known for paying native yield on ETH, has shut down for good. The Blast L2 shutdown came in a short X post on November 4, 2026. In it, the team told anyone with leftover money on the chain to go to its recovery site.

Three groups of users are covered: people with ETH or USD in an L2 wallet, people whose withdrawal is still pending, and anyone holding funds in Blast Mobile. All of these balances can be claimed through the same site.
That site will not stay open forever. It runs for 12 months, and the team lists November 4, 2027 as the last support date.

The closure was gradual. In an October 2 announcement, the team said it would wind the chain down and asked users to move all assets to Ethereum mainnet, including balances in the Blast PWA.
To speed this up, the withdrawal delay was cut to 24 hours. The team also withdrew its own Lido assets first, a step expected to take about a week, during which withdrawals were temporarily unavailable.

Why Blast Closed: Operating Costs Exceeded L2 Revenue

Blast went live on the mainnet in early 2024 as an optimistic rollup-style chain from the team behind the Blur NFT marketplace. Its pitch was native yield: ETH earned staking-based returns automatically, and the USDB stablecoin earned yield too.
Points and gold farming programs and airdrop incentives pulled in heavy capital. Total value locked peaked above $2 billion in mid-2024, then fell sharply as incentives ended. Live chain data is tracked on L2BEAT.
The team’s stated reason is economic. It said running costs now exceed the revenue the L2 earns, and it sees no credible path to making the chain sustainable.

After the Blast L2 shutdown, claims run only through the official recovery site at blast.io, which uses recovery smart contracts on Ethereum mainnet.

Eligible assets are:

ETH, and USDB held in L2 wallets

Pending withdrawals, which are included automatically

Balances held in the Blast Mobile app

Steps to claim:

Open blast.io and connect a wallet that held funds on Blast, or the owner of a safe or smart wallet authorized to claim.

Blast Mobile users import their seed phrase into a standard wallet such as MetaMask or Rabby, then connect that wallet.

Expect a different address from the old Blast Mobile one. The team says this is normal.

This is an economic wind-down. The sources report no hack, exploit, or security incident, and assets stay claimable through official channels.

Reports put the bridge balance at roughly $40 million when the normal interface closed on October 26. Later figures showed further reductions as users claimed funds.
Unclaimed balances attract crypto scams. The team posted a follow-up warning about impersonators and named @BLAST as the only official handle. Check the blast.io domain, and type a seed phrase only into a wallet app, never a website.
The sequence also shows a limit of incentive-led growth. Yield and points programs pulled in capital quickly, but usage and revenue fell once rewards ended. This is an analytical reading, not a claim from the team.
The Blast L2 shutdown closes a chain that once held over $2 billion. Anyone with funds left has until November 4, 2027 to claim them, and more crypto news and updates on Layer 2 networks will follow.
