Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, is reportedly preparing a significant new project he describes as his career’s “magnum opus.” According to Fire Hustle, a cryptocurrency analyst, Hoskinson’s developing project could impact the Midnight network’s NIGHT token ahead of providing benefits to Cardano’s ADA holders.

Spotlight on Midnight and NIGHT Token

Details about Hoskinson’s initiative remain largely undisclosed, with no official product announcement or timeline revealed. In commentary, Fire Hustle notes that Hoskinson claims the project is deliverable only through Midnight—a privacy-focused blockchain developed under Hoskinson’s leadership as an offshoot of Cardano.

The Midnight ecosystem features NIGHT, its native token, which is closely tied to network activity. When users hold NIGHT, they generate DUST, a resource required for transaction execution on Midnight. This direct feedback loop links the NIGHT token’s demand to actual network use, offering a structure distinct from Cardano’s ADA, whose value is less tightly linked to protocol-level adoption.

It introduces new data privacy and security features, with NIGHT as its core utility and governance token. DUST serves as a computational resource within the Midnight network, generated by staking NIGHT tokens.

Fire Hustle highlights network data indicating that, following the introduction of permissionless application deployment, Midnight’s daily transactions surged from fewer than 300 to over 26,000 within about a week. By late October, transactions reportedly surpassed 47,000 per day. However, rising transaction numbers alone do not guarantee lasting token demand or intrinsic economic value.

Fire Hustle points out that “transaction counts alone do not establish sustained demand or economic value,” emphasizing that robust adoption requires more than initial spikes.

Implications for ADA Holders

Fire Hustle suggests that ADA holders may eventually benefit from Midnight through a planned rewards framework. The proposed system could allow Cardano stake pool operators and their delegators access to Midnight’s participation rewards as early as 2027. However, this arrangement is not yet in place and would hinge on future implementation.

Currently, ADA trades near $0.20, approximately 90% below its all-time high in 2021. Fire Hustle observes that less than $100 million is currently locked in Cardano-based decentralized applications, and network fees on certain recent days have declined below $2,000. These figures exemplify the ongoing divide between anticipated growth and actual on-chain activity.

The host notes that ADA previously reached its peak value roughly ten days before Cardano’s smart contract upgrade in 2021. This situation serves as a reminder of the risks associated with speculative trading ahead of major network events, but it does not predict similar market behavior for the upcoming reveal.

For ADA investors, the core issue is determining whether the next major reveal will generate tangible value, or if speculative interest will once again outpace practical gains.

Comparing Token Exposure to Network Growth

NIGHT currently appears to have more immediate exposure to potential growth as Midnight adoption increases. ADA’s outlook, on the other hand, may depend more on whether new staking rewards frameworks are realized and if Cardano’s application ecosystem expands over time.

These developments highlight key differences in how each token is positioned to benefit from new initiatives within the broader Cardano ecosystem. For now, market participants are watching to see whether Hoskinson’s next high-profile launch will shift momentum or simply raise expectations again.
