North Korea Denies Role in $6.3B Binance Hack, Calls FBI Blame ‘Political Provocation’

North Korea has denied involvement in a reported $6.3B Binance hack and described the FBI’s alleged blame as a political provocation, according to the Bitcoin.com report cited in the research brief. The denial puts a direct dispute beside an unusually consequential reported loss, while the supplied FBI press-release URL itself is titled “North Korea Responsible for Bybit Hack,” leaving the material provided here short of an official FBI document that names Binance.

North Korea Rejects Claim Tied to Reported Binance Breach

Bitcoin.com’s report on the denial says North Korea rejected the allegation and called it a political provocation. That is the account supporting the denial in the supplied material; it should not be read as an independent finding on who carried out the reported breach. For related coverage, see Trump Not Concerned by Reported $6.3B Binance Hack.

The countervailing official document supplied for this story is the FBI’s press release headed “North Korea Responsible for Bybit Hack”. Its URL and title identify Bybit, not Binance, so the available evidence supports reporting an attribution dispute but does not establish that the FBI page makes the Binance-specific accusation described in the headline. Context on this theme: Bitcoin ETF Investors Exit After Record Binance Hack.

That distinction matters because the story contains two separate propositions: a reported Binance incident and an FBI attribution referenced by the denial. The Bitcoin.com report is the available account connecting those propositions, while the FBI’s Bybit-focused release is a primary official source with a different named platform.

What Is Documented — and What Remains Unresolved

The directly supportable statement is narrow: the Bitcoin.com report attributes a denial and the phrase “political provocation” to North Korea. The research package does not provide a North Korean government statement, an FBI release naming Binance, incident forensics, or an exchange statement, so none of those items can be presented here as verified.

Coinwy has separately published a report on the Binance breach being reported as causing losses, and the qualifier is important. Reporting that an event was reported is different from confirming its mechanics, affected accounts, recovery arrangements, or responsibility; those details are absent from the external URLs supplied for this phase.

Key takeaways

North Korea’s denial and its description of the accusation as a political provocation are attributed to the Bitcoin.com report.

The supplied FBI URL is an official release about Bybit, not a document that names Binance in its title.

Further official statements or technical evidence are needed before the reported Binance allegation can be treated as resolved.

Why the Platform Difference Changes the Reporting

The platform distinction is not a semantic detail. The FBI’s Bybit press release can be cited for the existence of an official North Korea attribution in a Bybit case, but it cannot by itself prove an attribution in a reported Binance case; conflating the two would overstate the evidence.

For Binance users and the exchange, the immediate practical issue is therefore the quality of subsequent disclosures rather than an unverified reconstruction of events. Coinwy’s coverage of the policy dispute over the reported Binance hack shows that the episode has drawn broader attention, but the provided research does not document a response by Binance, user reimbursement, or a technical post-mortem.

The same discipline applies to claims about fund movements. A Coinwy report on reported Binance-hack funds moving through THORChain is relevant background to the wider discussion, yet no block-explorer transaction links were provided in this research package; it cannot serve as confirmation of an on-chain trail in this article.

Attribution Has Cybersecurity and Diplomatic Stakes

Public attribution can carry legal, compliance and diplomatic consequences because it assigns responsibility for a cyber incident to a state-linked actor. In this case, the reported North Korean denial supplies the diplomatic rebuttal, while the FBI’s separate official Bybit attribution supplies evidence that U.S. authorities have publicly made such a finding in another exchange case.

The bull case for treating the report seriously is that an official FBI release exists for a North Korea attribution involving Bybit, and the Binance allegation has been reported by Bitcoin.com. The bear case is equally concrete: the supplied official page names a different exchange, and the research contains no direct evidence tying its findings to Binance; the dispute remains dependent on future official statements, exchange disclosures or verifiable technical evidence.
