ADNOC, G42 and OpenAI announced an agreement on November 2 to connect AI-supported decisions across the energy company’s operations. Abu Dhabi’s Media Office says the deployment will use OpenAI’s GPT models with inference infrastructure in the UAE. The announcement is evidence of a partnership, not proof of the resulting operational gains.

WHAT THE PARTNERS PLAN

ADNOC describes two initial applications: combining subsurface, facilities and economic studies for field development planning, and connecting decisions across production, processing, refining, logistics, sales and trading. It says human experts will retain oversight of consequential decisions. These are the partners’ stated plans; the announcement does not provide an independently verified performance comparison or a deployment schedule.

WHY COORDINATION MATTERS

CoinRank analysis: Better answers within separate teams do not automatically produce a better shared decision. A field plan can affect both production choices and downstream commercial assumptions. Connecting those inputs could make the trade-offs easier to examine, but also makes data consistency and responsibility for decisions important. This is an interpretation of the proposed workflow, not a claim that the system has improved output, margins or safety.

WHAT TO WATCH NEXT

The useful evidence will be which workflows enter production, how human review operates and whether results are measured against a defined baseline. Local inference identifies where computation runs; it does not, by itself, establish the quality of decisions or eliminate security risk.
