Binance says it has covered approximately 95% of the $6.3 billion stolen in last week’s reported cryptocurrency hack.
According to the exchange, the recovery effort draws on three sources: its corporate treasury, its Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU) and its futures insurance fund.
Withdrawals reportedly reopened on November 1.
The scale of the Binance $6.3 billion hack raises a major question: How can one cryptocurrency exchange absorb such a massive financial shock?
Part of the answer may lie in Binance’s substantial revenue-generating business.
However, revenue is not the same as profit or immediately available cash. The exchange’s ability to cover losses depends on its reserves, liquidity and financial obligations.
<h2 id="how-much-revenue-does-binance-generate">How Much Revenue Does Binance Generate?</h2>
Binance does not publicly release comprehensive audited financial accounts.
In March, founder Changpeng Zhao estimated annual revenue at approximately $5 billion.
Bloomberg, meanwhile, estimated $10.7 billion in revenue for the 12 months ending in June.
Based on those figures, the reported $6.3 billion theft is equivalent to roughly 7 to 15 months of revenue.
The exchange earns money primarily through trading fees and other platform services.
Still, these estimates cannot independently establish Binance’s profitability or confirm how much liquid capital it held before the incident.

The figures highlight two major revenue engines: centralized exchanges and stablecoin businesses.
Exchanges generate fees from trading activity, while stablecoin issuers earn income from assets supporting their tokens.
Among on-chain platforms, perpetual futures trading and memecoin activity stand out.
However, protocol fees, corporate revenue and reserve income are not always directly comparable.
The Binance $6.3 billion hack also demonstrates why revenue alone cannot measure a company’s ability to withstand a security incident.
For now, Binance’s reported coverage is significant, but independent confirmation of the losses, available reserves and financial impact remains important.
