Renzo REZ vs ezETH is a comparison that confuses many new restaking users, since both tokens carry the Renzo name but do very different jobs. One represents a restaked ETH position, while the other carries a vote over how the protocol runs.
ezETH is built for earning and exiting, so its biggest risks sit in withdrawal timing and fees. REZ is built for decisions, so its risks sit in vote structure, quorum, and token supply.

What Is Renzo, and What Does ezETH Do?

Understanding Renzo REZ vs ezETH starts with what the protocol actually offers. Renzo is a liquid restaking protocol that works with EigenLayer, and its documentation describes ezETH as a token representing a restaked position, minted when native ETH or stETH is deposited.
Under liquid restaking, staked ETH is reused to secure other services, and liquid restaking tokens like ezETH work as tradable receipts. Rewards compound automatically, so each ezETH gains value against the underlying assets over time.
Renzo takes a 10% fee on restaking rewards, split equally between its treasury and node operators.
Renzo's official site now shows a notice about a new name and points to Renzo Finance. The documentation still lists ezETH and REZ under the Renzo Protocol name, so the comparison below follows those pages.

How Does ezETH Withdrawal Work in Practice?

Withdrawals run through a contract called the WithdrawQueue. Locking ezETH there starts the exit, and the token is burned only when the underlying collateral is claimed.

The Standard Queue

In Renzo REZ vs ezETH comparisons, the standard queue is where most of the waiting happens. The beacon chain exit takes about 9 to 10 days, EigenLayer sets a 14-day minimum delay, and Renzo adds a 3-day buffer delay.
The withdrawals page expects a wait of 7 days when the buffer holds assets and 10 to 15 days when it is empty, while the ezETH documentation says withdrawals take up to 15 days. The figures are not fully aligned, so the live claims tab is the safer check.
Rewards also stop accruing the moment a withdrawal begins.

The Instant Option

Instant withdrawals skip the cooldown in return for a variable fee. That fee slides between a set minimum and maximum depending on how full the buffer is, and a request that would drain the buffer below its floor simply reverts.
Instant exits also stop working if the protocol is paused. In Renzo REZ vs ezETH terms, this makes withdrawal risk a matter of timing, since speed has a price that moves with demand.
Withdrawals are enabled only on Ethereum mainnet in the first phase. ezETH held on other networks must be swapped on exchanges or bridged back before an exit can start.

What Does REZ Actually Control?

On the REZ side of Renzo REZ vs ezETH, the token is a governance asset, similar to other DeFi governance tokens. Total supply is 10,000,000,000 REZ, and initial circulating supply was 1,150,000,000, or about 11.5%.
According to Renzo's published tokenomics, holders and delegates vote on risk frameworks, collateral limits, operator and AVS whitelisting, and treasury grants.

In Renzo REZ vs ezETH terms, the table shows how much supply sits with insiders. Fundraising and core contributor tokens together make up 51.56%, and both groups face a one-year cliff before any unlock begins.
Each token vesting schedule controls when that supply can reach the market, which in turn shapes who holds voting power later.

Renzo REZ vs ezETH: Where Governance Risk Sits

Proposals start with a five-day forum discussion. A vote follows, and the voting phase lasts five days on an off-chain voting platform under the current rules.
Passing a proposal needs at least 50% plus one vote and a quorum of 100,000,000 REZ. The documentation says quorum may rise as circulating supply grows.
That quorum equals 1% of total supply, or about 8.7% of the initial circulating amount. In any Renzo REZ vs ezETH governance review, this is the number to watch, since a small group of large holders or delegates could decide matters that touch ezETH collateral and operator choices. That reading is analysis, not a project claim.
ezETH itself carries no vote. The voting page lists delegated REZ, the legacy REZ staking contract, and ezREZ as the sources of voting power, so ezETH depositors depend on decisions made by REZ holders.
Staked REZ and ezREZ self-delegate automatically, but plain REZ in a wallet must be delegated manually before it counts.
For now, only whitelisted wallets can submit proposals on-chain, with wider access planned for a later phase. Restaking REZ into ezREZ also brings an exit delay of up to 14 days.

What Should Be Checked Before Using Either Token?

Several checks apply to Renzo REZ vs ezETH before any position is opened:

Withdrawal timing: Official pages cite both a 7-day and an up-to-15-day wait, so live queue status and buffer levels need checking before an exit is planned.

Instant exit fees:The fee moves with buffer fullness, so a large withdrawal during heavy demand may cost more or fail outright.

Slashing exposure:Operators secure services through EigenLayer, and slashing rules could reduce restaked value if an operator misbehaves.

Governance concentration: A 100,000,000 REZ quorum is small against a 10 billion supply, so delegate and large-holder behavior matters.

Audit coverage:Renzo lists several third-party reports from November 2023 to May 2025, yet smart contract audits lower risk without removing it.

Final Thoughts on Renzo REZ vs ezETH

Renzo REZ vs ezETH comes down to exit risk versus decision risk. ezETH holders face queue timing, instant-exit fees, and restaking risks such as EigenLayer slashing, while REZ holders face vesting unlocks and a quorum that looks low against total supply.
Some points remain uncertain. Live buffer levels, today's circulating REZ supply, and the effect of the Renzo Finance rename on documentation were not confirmed in the pages reviewed.
The next checks are the live claims tab, the governance forum, and the audit reports in Renzo's repository. Any decision on Renzo REZ vs ezETH should rest on those live details rather than this snapshot.
