Intercontinental Exchange is said to be preparing a US perpetual futures product built on Hyperliquid, coinciding with a rally in the HYPE token.

Intercontinental Exchange is reportedly preparing to launch perpetual futures contracts for the US market built on the Hyperliquid protocol, according to a report from CryptoBriefing. ICE operates the New York Stock Exchange along with a range of derivatives and data businesses, giving it substantial reach into regulated US trading venues.

Perpetual futures are derivative contracts without an expiration date, widely used in crypto markets to take leveraged long or short positions. They have historically operated largely outside US-regulated exchanges due to regulatory uncertainty. A move by ICE to offer such products domestically would mark a notable step toward bringing this trading style into a regulated framework.

Hyperliquid is a blockchain-based exchange protocol that has built a reputation around on-chain perpetual futures trading, drawing significant trading volume away from offshore platforms. Its native token, HYPE, is used within the ecosystem for governance and other functions tied to the protocol's operations.

Following the report, HYPE's price moved sharply higher, reflecting market interest in the prospect of institutional-grade adoption of the underlying technology. A listing or integration tied to a major regulated exchange like ICE would represent a significant validation signal for a protocol largely built within decentralized finance circles.

The report comes amid a broader trend of established financial institutions examining crypto market infrastructure more closely. Exchanges, clearinghouses and brokers have increasingly explored partnerships or acquisitions involving blockchain-based trading systems over the past two years. Regulatory clarity around digital asset derivatives in the United States has also been evolving, which may be encouraging firms like ICE to revisit products once seen as too risky or legally ambiguous.

Details on the structure of any ICE-Hyperliquid product, including timing, contract specifications, or regulatory approvals required, have not been disclosed in the reporting so far. It remains unclear whether ICE would license Hyperliquid's technology, build a parallel system inspired by it, or pursue some form of partnership. CryptoBriefing's report is the account currently available describing the plan, and further detail from ICE or Hyperliquid itself has not yet been reported.

Market Impact

If confirmed, an ICE-backed perpetual futures product could reshape how US traders access leveraged crypto derivatives, potentially drawing volume away from offshore platforms. Institutional interest in Hyperliquid's underlying technology could also boost confidence in on-chain derivatives infrastructure more broadly, encouraging other regulated exchanges to examine similar partnerships.

For HYPE token holders, the immediate price reaction shows how sensitive the market remains to news suggesting mainstream or regulated adoption. However, until ICE provides official confirmation and regulatory details emerge, the scale and timeline of any such product remain uncertain, and price moves tied to early reports can prove volatile.

The reported ICE plan highlights the continuing convergence between traditional exchange operators and crypto-native trading infrastructure. Confirmation from ICE or further regulatory detail will be needed before the scope of the project becomes clear.
