Why does the figure of 127 million keep appearing next to Pi Network? It points to the stream of locked coins that turn transferable each month. Pi Network unlocks don't create new tokens. They release existing balances once a lockup ends or a claim window opens.
Tracking data published between June and August 2026 showed about 127.5 million PI in a 30-day window, while the token traded near record lows. That pairing explains the price concerns.

How Do Pi Network Unlocks Actually Work?

A token unlock is the moment a locked balance becomes movable. On Pi, much of that supply sits in voluntary lockups that Pioneers, the network's users, chose in exchange for a higher mining rate.
The project's official white paper lists lockup terms of two weeks, six months, one year, and three years.
Once a lockup is confirmed, it can't be reversed. The balance stays frozen on the blockchain until the chosen term ends. Pi Network unlocks, therefore, follow a calendar that individual holders set months or years earlier, not a single decision by the project.
The core team's share follows a related rule. According to the whitepaper, that allocation unlocks only at the same pace as community mining progress, and it may face extra self-imposed lockups.

What Does the Pi Network Supply Model Look Like?

The whitepaper sets a maximum supply of 100 billion PI. It also states that the project has no ICO allocation and runs no crowdfunding sale of PI.

Most of this supply isn't trading yet, and that gap is why Pi Network unlocks matter so much. Circulating supply is what trades today. Total supply is the ceiling.
At a price near $0.078 in October 2026, the theoretical fully diluted value of 100 billion PI would be about $7.8 billion. That is simple arithmetic, not a project figure. Pi Network unlocks have shifted in size during 2026. The windows below come from public unlock tracking data reported over the year, so they describe past snapshots rather than a fixed schedule.

In the mid-June snapshot, the daily average came to about 4.25 million PI. At prices then near $0.083, the whole month was worth roughly $10.5 million. The dollar value looks modest, but the coin count is steady and predictable.
Schedule data from July 2026 also pointed to about 775.8 million PI unlocking by the end of the year. Some reports said monthly totals would rise toward November.
Pi Network unlocks change as lockups expire and new balances migrate to the mainnet. The 30-day total on any given day may differ from the headline number, so the latest tracker reading should be checked before anyone quotes it. The official Pi block explorer shows on-chain activity directly.

Why Do Pi Network Unlocks Raise Price Concerns?

The price history explains the nerves. PI hit its peak almost immediately. Within days of the Open Network launch in February 2025, it touched about $2.99.
The slide since then has been steep, with a record low near $0.0706 on July 14, 2026, and a late October range of roughly $0.078 to $0.08.
The logic behind the worry is simple. When more coins can move and buyer demand stays flat, the price tends to face pressure. Pi Network unlocks and adds to that potential supply every day.
But an unlock isn't a sale. A coin that turns transferable can stay in a wallet, move to an exchange, or be locked again. Holders who chose three-year lockups may have little reason to sell the moment the term ends.
Analyst interpretation: A $10 million monthly release is small against large assets. It can still weigh on a market where trading depth is limited and sentiment is weak. The pressure from Pi Network unlocks comes as much from expectation as from actual selling.

What Could Offset the Supply Pressure?

Demand has to come from real utility if it is to absorb Pi Network unlocks. The project's year-end review, published December 31, 2025, reported more than 17.5 million Pioneers fully through KYC and 15.8 million migrated to the mainnet.
It also counted over 13,400 chatbot apps and 24,400 custom apps built with Pi App Studio.
These are participation numbers, not spending numbers. The review doesn't publish payment volume, so the link between users and actual demand for PI stays unproven.
Related coverage of the Pi Network Desktop update looks at the product side of the project.
The next catalyst is the first Pi Ecosystem Summit, scheduled online for November 17 to 19, 2026. The project says it will focus on developer tools, app showcases, and a new hackathon.
An announcement of events isn't adoption, and any price effect would depend on what is actually delivered.

What Should Readers Check Before Judging Pi Network Unlocks?

A few checks give a clearer picture than any single headline number:

The latest 30-day unlock total and its share of all locked PI

Whether unlocked coins reach exchanges or stay in wallets

Whether new lockups are still being created, which would slow future supply

Official updates from the Core Team around the November summit

Three distinctions help when reading Pi Network unlocks. An unlock isn't a sale. Market cap isn't fully diluted value. A roadmap isn't delivery.
The related token vesting schedule guide covers the first of these in more detail, and the latest Pi Network news shows how quickly the numbers change.

What Do Pi Network Unlocks Tell Readers So Far?

Pi Network unlocks are a scheduled release of existing balances, tied to lockups that holders chose themselves. The reported monthly figure of about 127 million PI is small in dollar terms but meaningful against a price near its lows.
What stands out is the gap between a huge locked supply and modest proven demand. What remains uncertain is how many unlocked coins reach the market and whether Ether utility grows fast enough to absorb them.
