BeInCrypto reports that dozens of large corporations have pushed back against blockchain-based versions of their shares, while two of the most tokenized names have made no public statement.

A new report from BeInCrypto says 33 large U.S. companies have moved to block tokenized versions of their shares from circulating on blockchain-based trading platforms. The report names no single trigger event but frames the pushback as a broader corporate response to the rise of tokenized equities offered outside traditional exchanges.

Tokenized stocks are blockchain-based tokens meant to track the price of a real company share. They are typically issued by third-party platforms, not by the companies themselves. Providers market them as a way to trade equities around the clock, access U.S. markets from abroad, and buy fractional shares without a traditional brokerage account.

That structure is also the source of friction. Because tokenized shares are usually issued without a formal partnership with the underlying company, some corporations view them as unauthorized use of their brand or stock identity. According to BeInCrypto, 33 companies have now taken some form of action to resist this practice, though the report does not detail what those actions specifically involve.

Apple and Tesla are notable by their absence from any reported pushback. Both companies are among the most frequently tokenized names on crypto trading platforms, given their size and retail investor popularity. BeInCrypto's report indicates neither company has issued a public statement opposing or endorsing tokenized versions of their shares.

The silence from Apple and Tesla could reflect several possibilities. It may mean the companies have not yet formed an official position, are evaluating legal options privately, or simply see limited business risk in tokenized trading of their shares. Without further comment from either company, the reason for their silence remains unclear.

The broader tokenized stock market has grown over the past two years, with platforms including crypto exchanges and specialized issuers offering blockchain-based exposure to popular equities. Regulators, including the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, have scrutinized these products, questioning whether they meet securities law requirements and adequately protect investors who may not fully understand what they are buying.

Companies blocking or resisting tokenization is not entirely new. Some issuers have previously faced requests from corporations to halt the use of their brand names and tickers on token products. What differentiates this report is the scale: 33 companies reportedly taking action represents a sizable share of the large-cap universe that tokenization platforms have targeted.

The report does not specify whether the 33 companies have pursued legal action, sent cease-and-desist letters, or simply issued public statements distancing themselves from tokenized products bearing their names. That ambiguity leaves open questions about how enforceable any pushback might be, given that tokenized products are typically structured as synthetic trackers rather than direct equity ownership.

Market Impact

If accurate, the resistance from dozens of major companies could pressure tokenization platforms to renegotiate how they structure and market blockchain-based equity products. Platforms relying on brand recognition of large-cap names may face reputational or legal exposure if companies formally object to unauthorized use of their stock identity.

For investors, the development underscores a persistent gap between the companies whose shares are tracked and the platforms offering tokenized exposure to them. Apple and Tesla's lack of public comment leaves their tokenized products in a gray area, where investor protections and company endorsement remain unclear until either firm states a position.

The report highlights ongoing tension between traditional corporations and the blockchain platforms building products around their stock, with Apple and Tesla's silence leaving a key part of the story unresolved for now.

What are tokenized stocks?

Tokenized stocks are blockchain-based tokens designed to track the price of a real company's shares. They are usually issued by third-party platforms rather than the companies themselves.

No. BeInCrypto's report simply notes that neither company has made a public statement on the issue, leaving their position unclear.

Are tokenized stocks regulated the same way as traditional shares?
